Resolved Question: What do other supporters of illegals have to say about one of their own arrested for helping illegals break?
(Tue, 09 Mar 2010 02:31:34 GMT)
What do other supporters of illegals have to say about one of their own arrested for helping illegals break the law ?McALLEN, Texas — A south Texas county commissioner pleaded guilty Monday to two felony counts stemming from her putting illegal immigrants who worked at her home on the county payroll. Hidalgo County Commissioner Sylvia Handy pleaded guilty to making false statements on her 2005 income tax return and conspiracy to conceal or harbor illegal immigrants, according to federal court records. Lawyers had prepared to begin picking the jury for her trial Monday. U.S. District Judge Ricardo Hinojosa allowed Handy to remain free on bond until her June sentencing, in exchange for promising to resign her elected position Tuesday, court records show. Arrested in April, Handy faced an 11-count indictment, but had remained free on bond and continued working as a county commissioner. Calls to Handy's attorney Al Alvarez and her precinct office were not immediately returned Monday. Handy's husband Juan Espronceda also was charged in the case, but the charges were supposed to be dropped after Handy's sentencing, according to court records. Federal investigators alleged Handy defrauded the county of $111,000 in salaries for the immigrants. Some of their county salaries also went toward paying a $53,000 bill consolidation loan Handy took out in 2004, according to the indictment. Handy allegedly instructed a county human resources employee to prepare a fraudulent job application for one woman using an assumed identity, including someone else's Social Security number. At one point, Handy promoted her. The woman moved in 2004 into a house in Mercedes owned by Handy and continued collecting county paychecks. In June 2005, the woman withdrew $4,400 from her assumed identity's retirement account. The process allegedly included sham interviews with other job applicants before another illegal immigrant ultimately was hired for a maintenance job. She collected county checks while working in Handy's home in 2004. Handy has served on the county commission since first running for her seat in 1996. She was Hidalgo County's first elected woman commissioner. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/6903526.html

Voting Question: Can I go to an accredited university while collecting unemployment?
(Sun, 07 Mar 2010 22:04:04 GMT)
I work in telecom in Texas, and my current employer has occasional "early retirement packages" where I can get a lump sum payment and uncontested applications for unemployment benefits if I voluntarily terminate my employment (like say, if my position is moving to an office out of state, etc). I am pretty sure you can't apply for goverment student loans while receiving unemployment checks, but would it be possible to pay out of pocket for community college or re-training while I am on unemployment? I thought I remembered a law against this the last time I was laid off (mid 90s). Thanks for any info.

Resolved Question: What is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive?
(Mon, 01 Mar 2010 23:44:18 GMT)
If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how he inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes? If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky? If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip? If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had stated that there were 57 states in the United States , would you have said that he is clueless. If George W. Bush would have flown all the way to Denmark to make a five minute speech about how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door in Texas , would you have thought he was a self important, conceited, egotistical idiot. If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Quattro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment? If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite? If George W. Bush's administration had okay-ed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11? If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence? If George W. Bush had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have approved? If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved? If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved? So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Command of the language? Corpseman? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in a year-- so you'll have three years to come up with an answer.

Resolved Question: What do U think of this Mexican Senate reproaches U.S. for measures against migrants”?
(Sat, 06 Feb 2010 17:11:11 GMT)
Mexican Senate reproaches U.S. for measures against The Senate of the Republic approved sending a message to President Felipe Calderon so that he may ask the Government of the United States to reconsider the anti-immigrant measures intended to be taken in the neighboring country’s budget for 2011. All political parties of the Senate reproached the policy change of direction of the American President, Barack Obama, who has decided to go back on the promise he made to all the Hispanic groups that supported him, and now he insists on closing the border. The government of Barack Obama seeks to increase the funds to reinforce border security with 4.6 billion dollars to support 20 thousand agents of the Border Patrol, as well as to finish the first portion of the “virtual fence.” The parliamentary majority at Xicotencatl (the street where the Senate Chamber is located,) also supported asking the government of Felipe Calderon to manifest an “estrangement” because of the anti-immigrant measures that would eventually be carried out, considering them contrary to human rights. The PRI (pol. party) Senator Rosario Green Macias, president of the Foreign Relations Commission (read: committee chairwoman), criticized President Obama severely for going back on the promise he made to the Hispanic groups, who supported him at all times, and for insisting on closing up the border. Besides announcing that he will build the missing portion of the “virtual fence” by means of which everyone who crosses, undocumented or illegally, will be detected and can be immediately jailed and later expelled, (and also) reinforcing the number of agents, for customs as well as for the border. She expressed her worry, “because from now on we Mexicans will not know what to believe when we speak with the President of all the Americans, because he is a President who fails to keep his word.” The PAN Party member Adriana Gonzalez Carrillo introduced an “urgent and obvious resolution” Accord Point that earned the backing of all the groups represented in the Senate. She brought up that, three decades ago, the border states had a bit more than 16 percent of the population of each country. Now, the ones in the United States represent 22 percent and those of Mexico 17 percent. She stated, “The proportion of the Hispanic presence in the United States border states has increased significantly, and today, it’s 25 percent of the total population of Arizona, almost a third of that in California and Texas, and 42 percent in New Mexico.” From the rostrum, the senator stated that Mexican immigrants make the United States a better country, they work ceaselessly, pay taxes, create jobs, control inflation, contribute to the elders’ retirement and are, in short, the spinal column of many industries. migrants”http://www.oem.com.mx/elsoldemexico/notas/n1505459.htm

I don't want to burn thru my retirement money while looking for a new job! But, the local (Texas) authorities tell me that because the retirement money shows up in my bank account (last 3 months), I can't get assistance of any type! Surely, there is some misunderstanding. Resolved Question: I did my taxes and I owe $27.00 on the standard single deduction. How can i owe nothing for 2009 filing?
(Sun, 24 Jan 2010 02:00:28 GMT)
For Texas Single, no dependents No IRA or Retirement contributions No Medical write offs Only donation is $500.00 for clothing, Old Pc and TVs Gross 2071.00 from work Gross 17125.00 from unemp Paid in taxes 587.75 I owe $27.00 in taxes after doing free filing on a few sites. Is there anything I can do now, to owe the IRS nothing for 2009? Ok to clarify: When you itemize, you must exceed your standard deduction and my $500.00 doesn't do it so i automatically use the higher of the two which is my standard, so my $500.00 donation is not even worth mentioning and is omitted in the return, I have receipts and i learned that Haiti donations are fully tax deductible. Is this true?

Resolved Question: Does proof of retirement income suffice as a proof of income for getting into an apartment?
(Thu, 21 Jan 2010 00:37:36 GMT)
Hi All! I am writing this as a question for a dear retired friend of mine. She has recently relocated to Austin, Texas and lives off of her State of California retirement income as well as her Social Security. We were getting her situated in an apartment, providing details of the retirement pay( which mind you is almost 4 times the monthly rent... and the apartment complex staff is demanding that she show bank information because they are titling her as UNEMPLOYED! Although she is UNEMPLOYED, she is RETIRED and receives more than enough income to pay the rent (x4). Is there a way that we can provide retirement income as a proof of income, this just doesn't seem fair! Her bank account balance isn't all that high because she moved from california where almost the entire retirement pay was put towards outrageous rent, can they base it off of solely her bank account average balance!!?!?!

Resolved Question: Marc Bulger will decide Rams Number 1 Pick in 2010 Draft.?
(Mon, 18 Jan 2010 05:40:00 GMT)
QB Marc Bulger is mulling retirement recently and his decision may in fact decide who the St. Louis Rams draft Number 1. The Rams have not succeeded at Quarterback since Kurt Warner left. Should Marc Bulger retire the Rams will undoubtedly pick Notre Dame Quarterback Jimmy Clausen. The pick makes since Clausen has played in a Pro Style Offense under Charlie Weis, Now Offensive Coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs. Should Marc Bulger return then the Rams can decide to either cut or trade him or keep him with the team and choose to draft Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh and pick a QB, Like Texas's Colt McCoy or Cincinnati's Tony Pike, in Round 2. Whatever the decision he makes it will decide where the Rams draft in 2010.

Resolved Question: Paying Taxes on Military Retirement as part of Texas Community Property settlement.?
(Sun, 17 Jan 2010 20:07:18 GMT)
I receive 26% of his 'disposable' military retirement pay (I think DFAS figures my percentage after SBP and VA waiver ..IF the waiver is not CRDP...CRDP is included in disposable retirement pay see DFAS web site). Because it is part of the divorce decree it doesn't fall under the 'Gift Tax' category, and because the divorce decree clearly states that no payments to me are to be construed as income as classified /defined by IRS, rather those payments fall under the law as equitable distribution of property (Texas). However IRS is required to collect taxes on any Retirement Pension Plan, therefore I have to pay taxes on it FIRST under that law..Right? But if its' not taxable as 'income' to me will I get the money back I have to pay on it? There is a paragraph in my divorce decree that states "NO ALIMONY'..."funds paid under the equitable distribution are NOT ALIMONY. So this is confusing? The IRS said no those funds are not reported as income for you and I have to attach my divorce decree every year to get or to waive any taxes I may pay or be assessed on those funds. And the payee is not allowed to claim it as a deductible type of spousal support or alimony or gift. Does this make sense to any of you?

Voting Question: Can I petition the courts in Louisiana to stop paying child support in the future or fight it now?
(Fri, 25 Dec 2009 19:15:08 GMT)
My wife of 12 years decided to divorce me and move herself and the kids from Texas back to Louisiana. I didn't fight it since it takes two to be married and only one to divorce. I packed up and moved back to Louisiana as well so that I could be in our kids lives. We're going the route of her having a lawyer and we're just agreeing to everything. I'm walking away with only keeping my retirement and so to keep from going to court and losing that I'm agreeing to pay child support even though we will have joint custody and I'm raising the kids half of the time, they remained on my insurance, I'm paying preschool tuition, and have agreed to put the kids through college. She is walking away with everything else. Can I petition the courts in Louisiana once the juristiction of the custody case is moved to not pay child support or should I go ahead and fight it in Texas and go ahead and lose half of my retirement? Lisa S, I fully understand that retirement and CS are two different things. The sad part of a divorce is that in the end everything boils down to money/belongings and children if involved. I also understand that the judge can order just about anything, but regardless the whole thing comes down to who can barter the best. If it's an uncontested divorce and everything is in order in front of the judge then everything is a bargaining chip. Trust me, my kids will not do without. She's makes a decent salary as do I. From my digging, I've found that most of the time judges don't change anything as long as the divorce is uncontested and all of the proper paperwork is in order. From what I've found on CS in the case of joint custody it generally comes down to who makes more money regardless of if the both parties earn an above average wage.

Resolved Question: Is Wrestlemania XXVI the most hyped up Wrestlemania in history?
(Mon, 21 Dec 2009 00:06:41 GMT)
So far, in history. there have been 25 Wrestlemania's. The WWE (or WWF from the 1985-2002 Wrestlemania's) has traveled to many places around the globe, such as New York, California, Texas, Michigan, Canada, and much more. But, is Wrestlemania XXVI, emanating from Glendale, Arizona on March 28th, 2010, the most hyped up Wrestlemania in history? There has been much more speculation and unpredictability to 2010's edition of Wrestlemania more than any other Wrestlemania that I remember. We have had match speculations, questions of where the location of the event will be, and more. It all started when Wayne Gretzky wore a t-shirt back in 2008 that read 'Wrestlemania 2010 - Destruction In The Desert'. That sparked major interest and a solution as to where the event would be held. Then, almost instantly it seemed, after Wrestlemania 25, everyone began wondering what matches would take place at the next year's Wrestlemania. There was at one point a time where John Cena challenged The Rock to come back and wrestle him, one more match, at Wrestlemania XXVI. And, as every year, there's the discussion of, 'Who's Undertaker's next opponent?' There were rumors flying of both John Cena and Chris Jericho to be the man who would challenge the streak. Later that year, Edge and Jericho would become tag team champions, then Edge would later be legitimately injured, which led to a 'Edge vs Jericho feud, leading to a match at 'Mania XXVI?' discussion. Then began speculation of a match between Shawn Michaels and Triple H, in Shawn Michaels' retirement match, to take place at the event. And recently, WWE made history by having the very first Wrestlemania pre-sale party, where fans could buy tickets to Wrestlemania XXVI live and in person, along with meeting Chris Jericho and Kelly Kelly. Then, there's the 2009 Slammy Awards edition of Monday Night RAW, where Shawn Michaels accepted the award for Match of the Year, between him and the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 25. Shawn then went on to say that both himself, and the Undertaker, know that Shawn can beat him, which led to a comment about doing it again, a rematch, Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker, Wrestlemania XXVI. After reading through the facts, do you believe that Wrestlemania XXVI is the most hyped up Wrestlemania of all time? Please explain your answer. ** STAR IF YOU ENJOYED THIS QUESTION **

Resolved Question: Can anybody indicate how much money will this trail cost taxpayers Texas politician charged with harboring?
(Wed, 02 Dec 2009 03:01:09 GMT)
McALLEN, Texas — A south Texas politician charged with harboring illegal immigrants and called a "master manipulator" by a federal prosecutor can leave home to work but for little else after investigators alleged she tried to bribe witnesses. Hidalgo County Commissioner Sylvia Handy teared up Tuesday as U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos clamped restrictions on her movements, but avoided spending the holidays in jail for violating the conditions of her bond. Handy and her husband, Juan Espronceda, were charged with harboring illegal immigrants who were given county positions and salaries, but only worked in the couple's Weslaco home, according to an indictment unsealed in April. In June 2005, the woman withdrew $4,400 from her assumed identity's retirement account. http://www.star-telegram.com/448/story/1802643.html Can anybody indicate how much money will this trail cost taxpayers Texas politician charged with harboring illegal immigrants and called a "master manipulator ?

Resolved Question: Which job offer would you take?
(Wed, 28 Oct 2009 05:06:00 GMT)
this first job will help me get into computers...not exaclty sure if thats what i want to do for the rest of my life but its what i studied for3 years. most likely would not make much above min wage ..some employers will want to hire and send ppl to school rather than pay full price for a person with a lot of experience-- in some places at least this is what ive found to be true. This second job is kina nice in benifits and am interested in criminal justice. it would give me enough doe to get my own place as well as be able to afford things like truck insurance under my own name! and have off days ..working for gov (as a prison correctional officer for Texas) four days on four days off... may open up grant opportunities and that leaves time to actually study even if it is to get an online degree.....that is if i pass inspection...ill be able to get in thorugh the screening prossess the only thing im worried about is my knee..its well healed and can do anything with it but dislocated it a few months shy of turning 12. Job 1 benifits -Scholarships -Health Benifits, voluntary dental insurance, life insurance, rx discountcard -voluntary cancer insurance -paid weekly -opportunity for advancement job 2 benifits -Salary is several dollars over min wage (downside only get paid once a month) the longer you are there (in months) the better the pay raises -state pays 100% employees health benefits even preventive care benefits, and prescription payment help, dental and life insurance program available -Uniforms (including laundry experience) and equipment is furnished at no cost - free meals while on duty -legal protection plan -vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement -work is four days on four days off...basically .12 hours a day for four days...My aunt worked a schedule like this and loved it...I think this would be a nice schedule that I could stick to as well Here is my situation, experience, edu ect -18 years old with resume built up..have been working since age 16. -Took 3 years of computer networking courses in high school which lead ----into an internship that gave me 9 months experience in the IT and engineering dept. working in the office at a prestigious steel mill! awesome!! Couldn't have learned half of what I know now from the classroom! Having hands on experience rocks! right now im living with my gparents trying to help them..however looks like he will have to go in to a nursing home..one person cant keep him out..doc's afriad of my health going down the drain too. Love the gparents but dont even have a space to hang my clothes so am wanting a job that will give me enough doe to get my own place..however small it may be what do you think is the best job opportunity? either of these could be long term careers

Resolved Question: FINNALLY have employers looking at me! now how do i choose which offer!?
(Wed, 28 Oct 2009 04:47:33 GMT)
ok so got laid off mid aug and FIANNLY the second job fair and NUMBEROUS past applications got me somewhere! Not sure where to start so here's me: -18 years old with resume built up..have been working since age 16. -Took 3 years of computer networking courses in high school which lead ----into an internship that gave me 9 months experience in the IT and engineering dept. working in the office at a prestigious steel mill! awesome!! Got to talk to a training Coordinator from one company have already applied to...when I showed her and started explaining the internship her jaw dropped...no joke. She gave me this one guys number and said if he did not call me in a few days for me to call her! It didn't matter that I don't have a college degree or certificate awesome right! (the company has scholarship opportunities!!!) She said instead of working in the company stores I could be working with her...basically in the main office because they are CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS IT AKA Computer networking!! With the info she handed me found the benifits are: -Scholarships -Health Benifits, voluntary dental insurance, life insurance, rx discountcard -voluntary cancer insurance -paid weekly -opportunity for advancement but here's the other job I could get into that would train me...(Correctional officer for Texas) would have to go to get a screening ...hotel, gas, food for that i would have to pay myself unfortunately but the recruiter said once I get a call back the state pays for the 6 weeks training...all the lodging, transportation ect. benefits: -Salary is several dollars over min wage (downside only get paid once a month) the longer you are there (in months) the better the pay raises -state pays 100% employees health benefits even preventive care benefits, and prescription payment help, dental and life insurance program available -Uniforms (including laundry experience) and equipment is furnished at no cost - free meals while on duty -legal protection plan -vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement -work is four days on four days off...basically .12 hours a day for four days...My aunt worked a schedule like this and loved it...I think this would be a nice schedule that I could stick to as well -Once I reach age 21 I could switch to a federal prison which will most likely have more benefits? ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED!!!

Resolved Question: Help!!!... I have a huge decision to make. Do i stay in the military or do i get out?
(Thu, 15 Oct 2009 08:40:45 GMT)
I have been in the USAF for 8 years (will be 9 by the time i separate) so i'm pretty much half way to retirement. Recently i have been thinking that some aspects of the military are just not me anymore (but who is truly happy with their job?) I would move back to Texas where i'm from, i'd join the Reserves (so i keep my foot in the military door) and then attempt to go to school and get a job. I really don't have a "set" plan right now and i have just over 4 months until i separate, it's crunch time!!! It's not the job that gets boring, i actually enjoy my job (most days), i have a job that is pretty close to the backbone of the AF and it's mission. It's the politics that comes with making rank. I dont do politics and i hate being dragged into them by upper management.

Resolved Question: Is there such thing as a retired peace officer certificate from TCLEOSE?
(Tue, 13 Oct 2009 18:52:26 GMT)
I honorably retired in June 2002 from a Police Department in the State of Texas. At the time of my retirement I had obtained my Master's Certificate and I held my instructors certificate. I have let my commission become inactive and was wondering is there a retired Peace Officer card from TCLEOSE that is available? As many of you out there that have retired know it feels like you are naked running around without a gun and a badge. I have been in several situations where I was sure wishing I had been carrying a weapon. Just do not want to have to do the concealed weapon thing...just not the same. I was very proud to be a Texas Peace Officer and would like to be able to carry some type of ID to verify who I am/was. Thank You

Resolved Question: How much to buy a house in Austin, Texas?
(Sun, 04 Oct 2009 20:04:14 GMT)
My parents will be immigrating to Austin, from Australia, to be closer to our relatives (most of our relatives live there) but they don't want to sell their house in Australia because they want to be able to come back to Australia half the time of the year. Like, live in the US for half the year and Australia the other half. However, they are close to their retirement age, so, if they buy a house in Austin, the mortgage will have to be paid off by myself and my sister. Being the good son and daughter that we are, we promised to do so. So yeah, just wondering, how much does it cost to buy a decent house in a decent neighbourhood in Austin?

Resolved Question: health/retirement/surgery?
(Sat, 03 Oct 2009 23:40:30 GMT)
My moms husband (62) just had his prostate removed about 2 months due to surgery. He missed work for about 7 weeks. Now they found out he has cancer in his liver, did a biopsy , doctors say surgery/chemo is not an option. he is not a smoker/drinker. They are meeting this week with a surgeon in San Antonio texas, the only option is a liver transplant. he will be one of the ones at the top of the list. but it still could be 8 months or so. So, recovery time is usually 9 months-ish. he was thinking of taking early retirement. After doing a little research his retirement would only be about 600.00 Would he qualify for any benefits? social security? disability? Since,I am not sure what I am looking for, its hard to look online. They were just thinking if they can find something during those 9 months of recovery he can work another 3 years and get full retirement

Voting Question: Should I Choose Texas Teachers Retirement Plan or Optional Retirement Plan?
(Sun, 27 Sep 2009 03:08:16 GMT)
I'm a new faculty in a state university in Texas. I am facing a one-time irrevocable choice for retirement plan: I can choose Texas state teacher's retirement plan, or choose an optional retirement plan such as TIAA. I'm not sure which one I should pick. Since this is a one-time choice, I would like to ask for your opinion. I am approaching 40 years old, and would prefer something less riskier. The Texas TRS seemed to be more stable. But considering the baby boomer generation and the deficit the TRS is facing, I'm not sure whether it is going to go bankrupt before I retire. On the other hand, an optional retirement program like TIAA sounds as risky to me as TRS. Anyone has any comments or suggestions on this, I really appreciate it! Thanks.

Resolved Question: Some geography questions!?
(Wed, 09 Sep 2009 13:53:19 GMT)
1. Name the area (much larger than Mexico) with the most inaccurate name of any territory in the world. (Hint: this is easy. The name was clearly thought up by an overzealous travel agent.) 2. There is a mainland country of 11,000 sq. miles (about the size of Maryland) whose nation's capital is located on an island out in the ocean. What is its name? 3. Find another capital separated from the mainland out in the middle of a sea. This country is about 17,000 square miles and has a population of about 6 million. Although the bulk of the country is located on the mainland, its largest city and capital is out on an island. Hint - this is in a sea. 4. Everyone knows about the problems on the island known as Ireland, but there are several other islands in the world with almost as many headaches over divided loyalties. The one we are looking has, like Ireland, been legally separated into two halves for political purposes. What is its name? 5. What is Red, White , and Blue, Black, Yellow , and wet all over? 6. I am one of the world's largest countries (Top 20), but I was completely landlocked until 1885 when I bought a tiny sliver of coastline about 20 miles wide to provide access to the sea. Who am I? 7. Hi. My name is ________ and I used to be a pretty good quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. Now in retirement I got a cushy job as one of the world's smallest countries. Where do I live? 8. I am an enormous land mass bigger than Saudi Arabia, Libya, or Mexico, but no one will let my gymnastics team into the Olympics because I am not a country. Who am I? (Hint : Not Antarctica, not Arctic Circle). 9. My name is Lake Superior, but I am feeling Erie because I am considered only the 2nd largest Lake in the world. Who's occupying First Base in the Lake Department? 10. About time, an easy one. I am a Top 20 in population country consisting of 13,000 islands. What's my name? 11. Over-Population is of course the Earth's most pressing problem. China averages 300 people per square mile, but that feels like living on the Moon compared to India's staggering 672 people per square mile. Then again, Japan averages 865 people!! Have you seen Tokyo lately?? 12. By comparison, Canada averages about 7 people a square mile and Australia about 6. The largest country on Earth, Russia, averages about 33 people. One country, however, gets my vote for hell on earth with the cataclysmic average of 40,000 people per square mile. Can you name it? 13. While we are on the subject of population, based on the United Nations web site, these are the 14 most populated metropolitan areas in the world. Oops ! I accidentally slipped in the 26th largest metropolitan area in the world. Which is the smallest city on the list?? (Hint: the 14th Smallest City on the list is Calcutta which is an amazing 5 million people larger than our secret city!!) 01. Calcutta, India 02. Istanbul, Turkey 03. Jakarta, Indonesia 04. Moscow, Russia 05. Mexico City, Mexico 06. New York City, U.S. 07. Bombay, India 08. Sao Paulo, Brazil 09. Seoul, South Korea 10. Tokyo, Japan 11. Beijing, China 12. Los Angeles, U.S. 13. Cairo, Egypt 14. Osaka, Japan 15. Manila, Philippines 14. Europe has Big Ben, but Asia, Africa, Australia, North America, and South America all have something real Big that Europe doesn't have. What is it ? 15. Bellaire, Texas, the world-famous home of SSQQ Dance Studio (which sponsors this web site), is a tiny city completely surrounded by the enormous city of Houston. 16. It is not uncommon for a city to be surrounded, but can you name the two larger countries that actually have two (or three) smaller separate countries that exist completely within its borders? (Please note: one of the 4 "contained" countries does share a single border with another country)? What are the names of the 2 large countries and the 4 smaller countries? 17. It is a little known fact that there is also a third country surrounded as well by one of the two large countries above. Can you name it? 18. So everybody has heard of the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal. Big deal. Anybody want to guess where the longest River-Canal connection in the world is located? 19. Which country's Flag is almost completely identical to the State of Texas Flag !?! The nerve of those rude copycats!! (Or did we copy theirs? Hmm.) 20. Russia, the United States, Spain, Angola, and Azerbaijan all have a unique problem in common that none of the other 190 countries are burdened with. What is it?

Resolved Question: child support--texas?
(Thu, 27 Aug 2009 10:53:25 GMT)
i found out last week that i am pregnant, and my husband was served an order to appear in court nov 2nd to have his child support increased (he has a 11 year old from previous marriage). we have been paying 300/month for past 8 years and were never served papers to have it increased before. but i am due in april and was planning to be off for 6 mos. and possibly go back to school for my masters. now that is out of the question, bec he makes just under 70,000 before taxes, a huge chunk will now come out. what are our rights because we are going to have a child? since the case is in november, will the judge take into account our soon to be born baby? can we possibly have it set to where we will pay the 20% now until i deliver and then automatically go to 17.5% like i have heard other people say? what kinds of things can help us through this, please help. how much will come out now? he makes 68000 before taxes, and he pays for her insurance. also they asked us for his retirement savings balance, this is ridiculous, are they going to take his retirement, that i helped contribute to also?

Resolved Question: IF YOU DON'T ANSWER THESE 10 QUESTIONS, THERE WILL BE NO MORE HOCKEY! So what's it gonna be, tough guy?
(Sat, 01 Aug 2009 22:22:38 GMT)
1. With both players being in their prime, who would win in a game of Bubble Hockey? LITY or Gordie Howe? 2. What would Bob's first thought be if his twins came out a different race/ethnicity? (Let's not get rude on this one. This is merely for joking purposes, kinda like a bachelor party sort of thing.) 3. If you were to say one of these is more rare than the other, which is harder to find? A Habs fan in Texas or a Freddie Prinze Jr. movie at Bob Probert's house? 4. Who is a better hockey player, Ilya Kovalchuk or Zach Parise? 5. Who is a better goalie? Jean Sebastian Giguere or Marty Turco? 6. If the Penguins were forced to trade one of the two, would they trade Crosby or Malkin? 7. Who would win in a jello wrestling match, Don Cherry or Scotty Bowman? (If you'rtre inquiring on age, I mean if they did it on PPV tonite!) 8. MMA and Boxing has girls holding a sign saying Round 1, and so on. How disasterous would it be if the NHL hired supermodels to dress in a bikini and drive the zamboni? 9. Have you ever had a crush on a fellow Yahoo Answer Hockey member? Care to break the ice on who? 10. Which would get a bigger response? A Paris Hilton-like video of Kimmy (will not back down) and myself or Sidney Crosby announcing early retirement? Sheesh, Erin. A little hostility there. Someone sounds a little jeeeaaallloouusss. ;-) Edit #2: Me too, Erin. Me too. =) Joe -- That's funny because I am on hour 12.5. What are we doing?

Resolved Question: What do investors think of my investment strategy?
(Wed, 01 Jul 2009 22:03:21 GMT)
I made a few investment goals for the next 5 years. I want to 1st move to Texas as I live in Massachusetts which is not suited for investors as it has income tax. 2nd once I am settled and working as I want I would open up a third bank account. I have two accounts already. I have Bank of America which I use to simply cash checks, and make deposits, I have Chase which I use to pay rent, and bills. I plan to open a 3rd with citibank as it want to use it as my investment bank as it has a higher interest rate and I knew the name as a child and trust it. Then I want to start opening accounts outside the U.S. I plan to invest in Turkey first as I see it wants to join the EU. Afterwards I plan to do the same in Asia, Middle east and south america . I do eventually want to buy stocks but I want to invest in foreign companies exclusively. I do not want mutual funds, 401K's and IRAS as I prefer to have more control of where my investments are going. I am also concerned about the retirement accounts use if I plan to live in Turkey permanently.

Resolved Question: What's the best way to bring up moving with my dad?
(Sat, 06 Jun 2009 02:00:59 GMT)
My mom and I want very badly to move back to Joplin Missouri. We live in Dallas, Texas right now. He initially refused because he said they would tax is Navy retirement. We fought back saying that it will be decreased by 15% each year starting in 2010, and completely gone by 2016. His next refusal was it's more expensive to live there. Our rebuttal was there is a 6,000 dollar difference -- LESS -- to live in Missouri than in Texas. Now he's saying he just doesn't want to move. He's almost never home because of his work, so it really wouldn't matter to him. All my mom's family that I am close with lives in Missouri. My dad doesn't really keep in contact with his family that much, save for email. If you could help me out, this would help ALOT. We already have a house set up, it was my Aunt and Uncle's old house, so we wouldn't have to worry about that... So... Any ideas? My dad is almost 62, so he could, for all practical reasons, retire. Secondly, the house we are looking to buy is currently being lived in, and just they way we want it. Third, my dad's job is not just based in Texas. He works with Motorola, so he travels all the time. He has no real office any where in Texas. He is never really at the house now. Also, I just want a sentence to a conversation starter... Not a whole lecture... Thank you.

Resolved Question: Can you translate this into simple, plain english? Thanks?
(Sun, 24 May 2009 11:22:57 GMT)
The Sun Belt is known as the southern tier of the United States and includes the following states of Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Arkansas, Colorado, Utah, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Nevada, New Mexico, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and extending as far north as Virginia. The Bible Belt occupies much of the same geography as the Sun Belt, with the exception of the southwest. [1][2] Author and political analyst Kevin Phillips claims to have coined the term "to describe the oil, military, aerospace and retirement country stretching from Florida to California" in his 1969 book The Emerging Republican Majority.[3] The term "Sun Belt" became synonymous with the southern third of the nation in the early 1970s. There was a shift in this period from the previously economically and politically important northeast to the south and west. Events such as the huge migration of immigrant workers from neighbouring Mexico, warmer climate, and a boom in the agriculture industry allowed for the southern third of the U.S.A. to grow by leaps and bounds economically. The climate spurred not only agricultural growth but was also a haven for many retirees who set up retirement communities in places such as Florida and Arizona. Industries such as aerospace, defense and oil boomed in the Sun Belt as companies took advantage of the low involvement of labor unions in the south and enjoyed the proximity to many U.S. military installations who were the major consumers of their products. The oil industry helped propel many southern states such as Texas and Louisiana forward and tourism exploded in Florida and southern California. Since 1970, the Sun Belt states have gained 25 electoral votes, many of which were shifted from northeastern and midwestern states. Since Lyndon B. Johnson's election in 1964, every elected United States President, with the exception of Barack Obama from Illinois, has been from the Sun Belt. (Gerald Ford, who was from Michigan, served as President following Richard Nixon's resignation but was not elected as President, and lost to Georgia's Jimmy Carter in the 1976 election.)
