Open Question: Is the current generation ready to center their careers around caring for the baby boomers?
(Fri, 03 Sep 2010 02:15:39 GMT)
1945-1964 are the years the baby boomers were born. So many were born that bigger schools had to be built, and there was a very high demand for college students to become teachers. It's now 46 years since the first baby boomers graduated high school, and they start turning 65 next year. Retiring on fixed incomes, having medical needs, dental needs, nursing home needs, physical therapy needs, there is a high demand for Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses, Therapists, and within 15-20 years Funeral

My parents have been in Canada for 30 years. Surprisingly though, my dad has been unemployed for most of this time, and my mom has had 2 jobs, but currently both of them are unemployed. I have two older siblings, and one younger. So as you can see, our life style has been like crap. On top of that, we have all been emotionally and physically abused by our dad since we were kids. One of my brothers has been so broken down, that has given up on life. He doesn't go to school or work. Our parents

Open Question: How many liberals are "ticking time bombs"?
(Wed, 01 Sep 2010 20:12:27 GMT)
WHY LIBERALS ARE DEPRESSED
Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel , "Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land."
Nearly 75 years ago, (when Welfare was introduced) Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land."
Today, Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels and mortgaged the Promised Land! Liberals got so depressed l

Resolved Question: Question on retirement planning - my parents?
(Tue, 31 Aug 2010 14:27:41 GMT)
My parents have asked me to help advise them on their retirement planning. They have set a tentative target date as June 2011. My mom will be 62 and my dad will be 64. They earn between $55 - 60 K, together, per year.
My mom's pension will pay $7,200 per year. Between my dad's 401(K) and their IRAs, they have about 120K saved. I'm guessing SS payments of about 24K per year. They also own 200 acres of farm land that they rent out. After property taxes and some land improvement expenses, they

**RELIEF OF THE UNIVERSE** In about 6 weeks, I will be receiving some money from a retirement fund (government TSP ... Thrift Savings Plan) from a divorce. I was told that if I receive this in cash, there will be tax implications, but I absolutely have to use a large portion to get out of my current desperate recession rut. How should I request that I receive this? Cash or 401K or something else? [The amount is around 40-50K, and 10K IMMEDIATELY goes to resolving debt ...].

I asked her before I went on vacation two weeks ago if she wanted to hang out. We were all set and our plans were fair game until she got a better offer from a different friend. Resolved Question: Where should a 28 yr old invest for retirement?

Our Roth aren't performing well and I would like to see better results. I've considered blue chip funds but it doesnt seem right because it's not a retirement account.

Voting Question: Why shouldn't I draw from my 401(k)?
(Sun, 22 Aug 2010 01:25:23 GMT)
First off, I absolutely agree that you should put money into their 401k if your employer will match your contribution. That is like free money.
I also recommend leaving it in if you aren't capable of saving for your future. I'm not trying to sabotage my retirement. I have faith that I won't be struggling to survive when I reach retirement though.
So here's my reasoning behind pulling my money out. I'm looking for flaws in my logic because I don't pretend to know all the details about it.

Voting Question: Should I pay off my student loans all at once?

Is it better to pay off a student loan completely at once (thus not paying interest) or using the money for a down payment on a home and saving the rest for backup? Even if I pay off the loan I will still have a few thousand saved up. I currently live at home and am not being rushed out the door. I also have good credit and feel not having any debt will help down the road.

I am currently 35 years old. I have satisfied prerequisites to enter either one. I can spend the next two years in school earning a BS in Nursing. Afterward I can get a commission in the US Navy as an Ensign. As an RN my pay would be about $50k in the Navy. By my calculations, my total career earnings would be $1.9M (minus BAS & BAH) over a 27yr "stint". I would then be able to retire at (hopefully) the rate of CDR (O-5) with a complete retirement package including $3k/mo in monies.

Not a loan - but wipe out your 401K - as much as you have vested (your own money).

And hopefully people would learn their lesson and save more agressively for their future.
After all - a home is an investment towards your retirement.
Of course you would pay taxes and a 10% penalty.

I am 31 years old and recently started working my first job that actually offers a 401(k). I have very little saved for retirement - approximately 3.5k in a T Rowe Price 2045 Retirement Fund. I have the following options as far as allocation for the 401k:
Fidelity Spartan Money Market Money Market SPRXX 0.43

Voting Question: Living Revocable Trust and IRAs?
(Fri, 13 Aug 2010 22:45:58 GMT)
I just created a living revocable trust (LRT), and now I have to fund it. I was reading online that qualified retirement plans such as 401ks and Roths should not be in the trust, but rather, the beneficiaries should change to include the LRT. My question is, is there any benefit to gain by having my wife as a beneficiary on my 401K versus inheriting it via the trust, which upon my death, she would inherit anyway? My options are 1) should I put my wife as primary and the LVT as secondary as 4

I was thinking of telling my older sister but then I realiz

Resolved Question: Do the fading generations conservatives need the young world liberals?
(Wed, 11 Aug 2010 17:24:48 GMT)
Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee.
The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.
With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.
All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union wor
