Resolved Question: players that came, played occasionly, then left - aka biggest flops of the EPL?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 18:28:42 GMT)
Tomas Brolin The man made a name for himself at AC Parma and at the 1994 World Cup with a few stunning goals. At the end of 1995 he moved to Leeds for ₤4.5 million and after arriving with weight problems, ‘Tubby’ scored a shocking 4 goals in 2 seasons all the while heavily lining the pockets of every McDonald’s manager in Leeds. Leeds terminated his contract in 1997 and it was all over for Fatty. Denilson Christiano Ronaldo without a brain would be a very apt title with which to describe Denilson. After signing for Betis for a then record 21.9 million Pounds, he proceeded to dribble himself for 7 years, before everyone realized how crap he really was. After an unsuccessful spell with Bordeaux, he decided to test his talent in the fairer climes of Saudi Arabia and FC Dallas. He seems to have found his level. Except FC Dallas don’t want him anymore. Marco Boogers - West Ham Harry Redknapp wasn't always the streetwise London gaffer he is today. The arrival of 'Mad' Marco Boogers for £1m from Sparta Rotterdam in July 1995 was just one of a number of misjudged West Ham imports. Coming on as a substitute against Manchester United in only his second appearance for the club, Boogers was almost immediately red carded for 'a sickening horror tackle' (The Sun) on Gary Neville. He promptly disappeared, discovered several weeks later hiding in a mobile home in a Dutch caravan park. The Boogers debacle, which ended in a loan deal and subsequent free transfer to Groningen despite his protestations - 'I'm not mental' - was the worst of a dreadful Redknapp collection: Florin Raducioiu arrived for £2.4m in July 96 and was sold at a £600,000 loss six months later after missing training for a Harvey Nichols shopping trip; Portuguese supermodel Dani lasted five months before being thrown out for excessive nightclubbing; and £2m star Javier Margas went missing in February last year, turning up later at home in Chile. He, unlike Boogers, did come back. Wim Jonk - Sheffield Wednesday Not only did Jonk look like Michael Palin, but he was as tough in the tackle as him. The Dutchman, signed for £2.5m from PSV Eindhoven in 1998, lolloped anonymously around Wednesday’s midfield for two seasons, the second of which saw them relegated. After experiencing the hurly burly of two First Division games, he sat out the remaining year of his contract, citing a tummy ache. At the end of that season, he retired to concentrate on his poetry. Wednesday fans had their own rhymes for him. Chris Sutton Another Chelsea flop, Sutton never really did much at Chelsea in one season, after transferring from Blackburn Rovers for ₤10 million. Luckily he did better at Celtic forming a deadly partnership with Henrik Larsson. Aaah, the Scottish League, a retirement home for below average English strikers. Massimo Taibi - Manchester United Sir Alex signed him to replace Peter Schmeichel? In 1999, with Raimond van der Gouw always wearing his bridesmaid’s outfit and Mark Bosnich too cocky by half, Sir Alex Ferguson splashed out £4.5m on Venezia journeyman Massimo Taibi. The omnipresent tracksuit bottoms should have caused Ferguson to pause for thought. Instead, Taibi conceded two sloppy goals at Liverpool on his debut and one to Wimbledon the following week. Then the fun began: Southampton scored three at Old Trafford, including a Matthew Le Tissier “shot” that trickled through Taibi’s legs and was so soft, it barely crossed the line. Eight days later, Chelsea put five past him at Stamford Bridge and this Italian’s job was over, little more than a month after it had began. Taibi rotted in the reserves until Reggina took him on loan before a £2.5m purchase at season’s end. He was, noted a generous Roy Keane, “clearly a good keeper”. Clearly. Juan Sebastian Veron - Manchester United signed for 28.1 million from lazio on a five year deal and lasted just 2 years before being sold onto Chelsea for less than half man utd payed. The strange thing is he was touted as one of the best midfielders in the world and seem to lose all talent the minute he steped off the plane at Manchester Airport. Corrado Grabbi - Blackburn Rovers How the Italians chuckled in 2001 when Graeme Souness, manager of Blackburn Rovers, paid £6.75m for Juventus cast-off Corrado Grabbi, who had just scored 19 goals in 34 Serie B (not to be confused with Serie A) games for Ternana. Grabbi’s work ethic was never in doubt, but two goals in 30 Premiership games suggested Souness might have been better buying a Serie A player. After an especially profligate performance in the 2003 Uefa Cup against Genclerbirgli, Souness lost patience. Grabbi was bought by Ancona. The fee was undisclosed, but it wasn’t £6.75m. Sean Dundee - Liverpool In 1998, Karlsruhe were relegated from the Bundesliga. Their tubby star forward, Sean “Crocodile” Dundee, scored just three times. These facts d ( continued from above or below dependin

Resolved Question: Honorably Retired (9 years) without pay, Can I use MTF System to get Prescriptions Filled?
(Sat, 06 Mar 2010 21:19:08 GMT)
My obligated term of military service was 9 years at the end of which President Ronald Reagan sent me a Certificate of Honorable Retirement from the U.S. Navy. This was about 36" by 24" on heavy parchment, with a genuine autopen Reagan Signature, plus Navy Seal, Plus Presidential seal, plus gold foil, plus blue ribbon. If I take this document to BCNR (Bureau for the Correction of Naval Records) will they agree that I am in fact Honorably Retired from the U.S. Navy. If they agree to that, will they agree that I can have access to the MTF Pharmancies or to Express Scripts, even though I do not qualify for retirement pay or Tri-care, (since 9 years is less than 20 years). I went to PSC in Anacostia. They said dunno, try BCNR. I do have a red ID card that says "RET" and "indefinite" it is a DD form 2 My DD 214, says that my discharge from active duty was "Honorable" The completion of my term of obligated service included six additional years as a reservist. So I got my Certificate from Ronald Reagan at the end of the 9 years. Does anybody know the system well enough to give me some idea of what BCNR is likely to say if I take my case to them. I am indigent, and without my heart pills, which I can't afford, I will have a heart attack. It would cost the government about $600 every 90 days for my pills. They gave AGI $300 Billion so that Henry Paulson's and Tim Geithner's colleagues at Goldman Sachs could be bailed out, and then go back to paying themselves $50 million per year. But apparently $2,400 per year for three years until I get my Medicare is too costly for the government. Not all obligated terms of military service are of identical length. For Navy JAGC officers, when I went in, the deal was three years active plus six years as a reservist, making a total of nine years obligated service. To Redleg --- OK 20 not 9, I get it, so please explain the Certificate of Honorable Retirement with the President's signature and seals on it. It declares in no uncertain terms that I (and it names me, in fancy script) am Honorably Retired from the U.S. Navy. It came to me from the White House in Washington DC. From whence did you acquire the authority to repudiate that document? On what basis are you telling me that it does not say what it says, that it does not mean what it says, or that what it says is in any way ambiguous or unclear? The document is over 20 years old. It's author, who is no longer alive, was authorized when he signed it to declare and constitute me as "Honorably Retired from the US Navy". It is an ancient document, and you may assume that a forensic documents examiner would find it to be authentic in signature and point of origin. Just tell me what your reasoning is to say it isn't so. You saw the number 20, so no other possibilities exist, is that it? Where is this Snarky Cynical Hateful stuff coming from? Why not just assume that What's I'm telling you is true and try to be helpful. What could I gain by posing as something I'm not and asking a fake question? PSD Anacostia told me yesterday that my ID card was red. The certificate I have was signed by Ronald Reagan while he was President, and it is a Certificate of Honorable Retirement. Why would I say that I had that if I didn't? What could the snarky haters be thinking. They must be reversing their own personalities and assuming that I am like them. This is not pleasant. I am not pleased. Could there be someone whose not a pissy a**hole to give me a straight-up answer some knowledge in it, or at least goodwill? What a bad sample of the military section of Answers -- you guys should be ashamed. Let's have some more civil answers please, you mean careless roughnecks can just stow it. Look at the hateful and abusive comment I've gotten here. This man tells me that my ID card has not been issued in 10 years. Yes, of course that is true. I don't go back every year to get a new ID card. He tells me I don't know much about ID cards. True, but why should I? He tells me I'm not really a JAG, not really a consultant to NCIS. How could he possibly know that? Wouldn't that just be the spewing of hateful and dishonorable falsehood? Of course it would be, to say such a thing about somebody one does not know, never met, whose service record one has not seen. So this spiv is going to tell me that becausse by ID card has not been used in 10 years, he knows my service record. He is the fraud. He is a liar. An evil and Bearing false witness liar. The wages of sin.. he knows .. so no need to say it again here.

Resolved Question: Could Wrestlemania XXVI be the best Wrestlemania since Wrestlemania XIX?
(Sat, 06 Mar 2010 16:55:41 GMT)
Ok, we all knew Wrestlemania XIX was second only to Wrestlemania X-7 caused it has one of the worst matches of all time (Taker vs Show & A-Train) whereas Wrestlemania X-7 utilized all its talent effectively, even the Divas held their end of the deal and the storylines and build ups going into it were great with no bad matches at all. The Tag champs meant something here (no one can forget TLC) and all the heel/face turns. It was just a great ppv to watch that kept us entertained. But look at the card we have this year (some of these matches arent announced yet but we know they are happening): Cena vs. Batista (WWE Title): I'm not a big fan of these guys. As a matter of fact, I don't either one of them can put on a good match unless they have a superior opponent. So how can this work out? I don't think it can. Sure, it can be entertaining in Warrior/Hogan kind of way, but it doesn't have the energy that match had. But, I have like Batista as a heel...although I think that will go away when he actually WRESTLES at Mania. This is the Hogan vs Warrior of PG Era. Edge vs. Jericho-WHC: More than likely, this match will be great. Both of these guys are great in ring competitors, and have been here before. But the feud has been a bit underwhelming, minus Edge returning at the Rumble. I just don't like the way this feud has been playing out. One night, Jericho talks some trash, Edge comes to the ring, spear, whatever. Next week, Edge comes to the ring, talks some trash, Jericho comes down, spear. It has been boring to me. The match will not be boring at all, but the build up hasn't been that great, IMO. HBK vs. Undertaker: I have seen this match quite a few times, but never with this much on the line..and I'm not sure I like it so far. If Taker loses, I am going to be really upset. This streak is HUGE for his legacy. It's really the only thing that sets him apart. He has never had his OWN era, he has always played second fiddle to someone else. If Shawn loses and retires, it's been a pretty crappy build up. If he comes back AFTER losing a retirement match, it will be crap. But I do like the fact that I am unable to really predict an ending, so we'll see. Hart vs. McMahon: Wrestling wise, this will be the worst match on the card...and I LOVE it. It will be a knock-down, drag-out brawl. Bret will whip his ass all over the arena, and it will be great. And, every big-spot junkie out there will cry his/her eyes out because these guys are , God forbid, over the age of 28. 12 years in the making, I'm excited. And maybe Austin as guest ref? Just keeps getting better and better. MITB Match: Always a super-entertaining match with the exception of last year thanks to Mark Henry. But the premise is getting a bit old. Plus, I don't really have anyone in particular I am rooting for, maybe Christian, but he doesn't do THAT much for me. Big Show/Miz vs. ANOTHER random Tag Team (won't mention who, don't want to be a spoiler: Two random tag teams, ONCE AGAIN, fighting for the tag belts. Will this junk ever end? Will we EVER get a good tag division again? Rey Mysterio vs Cm Punk: Once again this is not announced but we all know its happening, most likely with a hair vs mask stipulation but either way this match will be awesome! HHH vs Sheamus: Not announced but happening for sure, will this be the best match on the card? no! but i look to see if trips will lose to sheamus to put him over. So, what do u think?

Resolved Question: I feel like my fiance doesn't take much responsibility for anything?
(Thu, 25 Feb 2010 03:34:06 GMT)
Sorry this is long. I appreciate your advice! He is very responsible when it comes to his finances. He has a good career and absolutely no debt whatsoever. He paid for his truck and motorcycle in cash. He pays his bills (cell phone, rent, and insurance) on time, every time. He just got his first credit card ever a year or two ago when he was around 33 (he's 35 now). He only got them to build more credit. He doesn't spend anymore than he did before the cards and he pays them off in full every month. He puts away the max every month for retirement. He refuses to buy a house until he saves up enough for a 20% down payment, which he puts away a lot for that every month too. So, his financial responsibility is great. But when it comes to maintaining a household, it's ALL on me. We live together in an apartment and we split all the bills, including the rent, in half so it is not like he supports me financially in any way right now. I go to school full-time and work part-time. I make sure the rent, electric, and cable bills are paid on time every month. He just gives me his half of the money. If there is ever a problem in our apartment, he always tells me to call the maintenance people. Same thing if there is a problem with the internet or cable or whatever. I am expected to do all the cleaning. He will wash a couple dishes, do his own laundry, and dustbust here and there, and that is the extent of his cleaning contribution. He will always say things like "Jesus Christ" in a disgusted voice if there is cat hair on the couch or the litter box is not scooped or something, as if he is disgusted that these things aren't done (by me, of course). I got both cats when we were together, but he NEVER helps me with their litter box. That would be like if he got a dog and I just never offered to walk it or feed it. I would never do that though. I would treat the dog like my own even if I wasn't the one that got it. My boy cat Max acts like a brat sometimes and attacks our other cat and my fiance will say "YOU created this monster" but we were both there when I brought Max home as a kitten, so why doesn't my fiance have any responsibility for how he turned out? He is a pilot so he is gone a majority of the time. He uses that as his excuse for why he shouldn't have to help around the house. Too bad when he is off at home for 3 or 4 days at a time, all he does is go to the gym and sit on his computer the whole time. He has plenty of time to clean! I go to school full-time and work part-time, so it's not like I am just sitting at home with nothing better to do than clean. I am afraid that if we get married and have kids, maintaining the house and raising the children will be 90% my responsibility even if we both work full-time, and if there are any behavioral problems with the kids he will consider me fully responsible. What's the point of getting married if it's just another person to take care of and clean up after? Aren't spouses supposed to be partners and share responsibilities equally? Midnight, about your last question... wow! Recently I have been feeling like that. I have never told anyone that though. I feel guilty for even thinking it, but you've hit that nail on the head. and no, it is not just about the cats.

Resolved Question: Question About College for a 40-Year-Old Female...?
(Thu, 25 Feb 2010 01:16:03 GMT)
Bear with me, this is a bit lengthy. I am female, nearly 40 with family, especially 76 year old father coaxing me to pursue a college degree to land "secure employment" with benefits. Let me shed a little light with regards to my particular situation. I reluctantly graduated high school in '88 *wishing I'd repeated that year citing personal reasons* and, with the persistence of both my parents, began that fall in community college, randomly choosing a major to 1) get my parents off of my back and 2) declare a major just for the sake of declaring a major. My grandfather put away money since the time I was a baby in the stock market for my college, but I used it to fulfill transportation, living expenses and a trade school instead *I had always wanted to be a barber -- since the age of five* This, not surprisingly, was an unacceptable aspiration and, several years later, continued to be coaxed to finish a four-year-degree. This time, not only by my grandfather, but also my father and my younger brother and his wife. To make an insanely long story short, I spent those 20+ years traveling, barbering *for 15 years total*, working in various administrative positions in various industries and had a blast, along the way, doing so. There's one drawback: I have an extremely tiny retirement *my fault*, no benefits other than health insurance through my ex *not that I consider THAT a benefit -- more so a necessity* and some of the best income produced of any field I worked in in the barbering industry, $6000/mo, to be exact. Not too shabby. Still, the barber *out of work, currently* that I am, and the part-time entrepreneur *in another field* that I've become, my family still hounds me about that four-year college degree. Now, I am no dummy. I can do math *citing reasons to be diswayed by bloated interest rates for student loans* and I know my personality. The biggest problem with regards to attending college or, shall I say, the biggest problemS with regards to attending college right now *for my personal situation* are the following: -- I cannot sit still through classes, much less sit still through four full years, more if I need to go part time. -- There's not one major in college that I care to pursue. Not ONE. -- Not that I have anything against them, nor do I realize that all fall within this category, but I don't want a white collar position. No offense to white collar workers. My whole family is white collar. I am the only one who isn't. -- I can do math. I am not stupid. I know what I would need to repay for student loans after private, public or community colleges. I shudder with the thought of even having a debt of $5000. I don't have credit card debt. I don't own a credit card *my wisdom*. I have marginal medical debt *thank you, knee surgeries and asthma issues!*, but that only totals an amount in the ball park of $2000 -- manageable, comparitively speaking. I don't wish to repay loans once I hit the age when I begin drawing social security. I don't qualify for a grant -- still *legally* married, and I don't qualify for academic scholarships, grades aren't good enough, thanks to my high course withdrawal rate and F's for failing to withdraw courses once I unofficially dropped them back in the late 80's. -- I want to own a business when the opportunity arises and don't see it as a possibility by taking out student loans. There's no such thing as good debt/bad debt. It's ALL debt and I'd rather be debt free once the time permits to apply for a small business loan. So, there you have it. My life in a fairly sizeable nutshell. Question is this: How do I effectively explain to my family, once and for all, that I am NOT college-bound and that I have other, more important, more attractive aspirations? Appreciated are the intelligent and inobtuse replies. Thanks.

Thanks.

I am starting a new club at my high school where we write letters and cards to people who might appreciate them, like terminally ill people at hospitals, seniors in retirement homes, families of fallen soldiers, new refugees, etc. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

Voting Question: What options do you have when you are facing foreclosure, losing all your assets and drowning in debt?
(Tue, 09 Feb 2010 05:03:12 GMT)
I know this is a bleak outlook but I'm asking this on behalf of my parents... they are both of retirement age and are in a lot of financial trouble. They were hit by the bad housing market... they are facing losing both of their homes to foreclosure (one of which was an investment property they designed and built), have over $70K credit card debt in the US and in the UK. They don't know what to do and are under serious stress... a lawyer costs $2K + and they barely have enough money for food. They are being harrassed left, right and center by creditors and banks. What can they do to enjoy the rest of their lives without having to worry about debt any longer? Any constructive advice from knowledgable and experienced people most welcome - thank you in advance!

Voting Question: Need a plan, trying to be smart with money?
(Wed, 03 Feb 2010 16:40:23 GMT)
Hello everyone. I'm a recent college grad who's trying to be smart and make the best decisions with my money. Since I am completely financially independent for the first time, I don't have much experience with money management. I am coming into some money, about 30K, and I am unsure about what my priorities are (which debts to pay off first, or to put into retirement fund etc.) So this is where I need help. The current situation: -I currently make about 40K per year. -I have a 6K emergency fund. -No credit card debit. I have an excellent credit rating. -The only debt I have is student loans. I went to a more expensive school and I currently am paying back 52K at $400 per month. There are 4 individual loans (12K, 9K, 16K, 14K). They are private loans with low (but variable) interest rates ranging from 2.75%-3.75%. -So far no type of retirement savings. Looking into it. -I have about 300-500 left over at the end of every month to save depending. Where do you think this money should go? Pay off the loans first? I don't want these loans to crush me financially in the long run- I know it was dumb to do private loans but my parents (and me at the time) didn't know of any other way to fund my education. Please let me know what you think!

Resolved Question: Which financial options should I take advantage of at my new full-time job?
(Sun, 31 Jan 2010 01:43:47 GMT)
I'm 21 and just got my first full-time, salaried job at a national credit card company. Up to this point I have only worked part-time or seasonally in retail jobs where I did not have financial benefits like stock purchase options or retirement accounts or that sort of thing, so I have no idea what I need to take advantage of. Can anyone offer tips or point me to resources online that will help someone who is just starting their career? Thanks!

Voting Question: Do you worry about your parents in their old age?
(Sat, 30 Jan 2010 16:37:28 GMT)
I was raised by a single mom. She raised two sons and emigrated from another country to settle in the U.S. She mostly took low wage jobs, while raising a family on her own. I worked as soon as I was legally eligible. However, as I look at her finances--assets, liabilities, etc., it looks like she'll be working for a while. Currently, she lives on her own in rent control apartment in NYC, only paying $650 per month since she's been in that apartment for over 15 years. She always avoid financial planning and while she has some money saved up, it won't be enough for her to retire full time. This worries me because I've helped her get out of debt, but she continues to get back in it. I helped her set up a budget to better manage her money, but she abandons it after a couple months and goes back to paycheck to paycheck living. Her only extravagance is travel, which she uses to visit her family oversees once a year, all on credit cards. So it's a revolving door of debt to debt living. I don't ming talking care of her financially, which I already do, but it just frustrates me that she wants to spend her retirement years paying of credit cards and working part time just to make ends meet, even after I tried to provide help. Anyone can relate?

Resolved Question: Where can I answer questions like this and get paid for it?
(Wed, 27 Jan 2010 17:16:35 GMT)
I like helping people, but I am at home now and retired. It would help if I could earn a little extra money on the side. My husband gets more in retirement than I do, and he lets me have money if I need it, but I would rather not have to depend on it. I can do with what I get, but I have some credit cards I would like to pay off.

Resolved Question: How do I negotiate a lower settlement with a collection agency?
(Tue, 26 Jan 2010 20:13:24 GMT)
I have credit card debt that I have left unpaid for several months being that I lost my job, and couldnt make the regular payments. Not to mention it was with American Express and my interest was at 26%!! My total debt is $5,700 roughly and I just want them to leave me alone, and get them off my back. I wish I didnt have to do this, but I was going to pull money out of my exisiting 401k to pay them off, better yet, settle at a flat rate. I have $7,200 in my retirement that i can pull from and roll over into my new 401k. The collecetion agency is asking for $3,300 ("to meet in the middle") to settle it. Can I get them to go lower? Like $2800..? How do i do that or what should I say? I already know Im going to get penalized for pulling from my 401k early which means I will owe in taxes...But I dont know what it will all add up to. Whats my best bet?...HELP me please!

Voting Question: I think I did the right thing today, what's your opinion?
(Sun, 24 Jan 2010 04:04:32 GMT)
being marrried ten yrs, moved out 9 months ago with children 12 and 9 yrs old in my own apt. filed for divorce, joint custody court date was in a few days when my husband ask if we try to make it work out. i said ok but only under these condition, i wouldn't continue to live with your mother, i don't want you to call me fat again, communicate more, stop with the secrets, open a joint saving and chking accout, remove his mother and sister as beneficiaries off his pension, 401k and mutual funds, and place the children and i as beneficiaries last moved in with me and the children. he agreed to do everything if i don't pursue with the court cases, i dropped everything and i gave him one year to at least make an attempt for what he promised. well its a year now and nothing is in place. he refuses to move in with me and kids because he don't want to live in an apt, can't afford house right now because he's unemployed. i currently pay the rent at my apt which is no problem for me. he refuses to transfer beneficiaries because he needs me to prove to him i have no credit card debts, because if he transfers the beneficiaries into my name because he's afraid the creditors would take his pension if he does so. He is 47 and am 42 yrs old, not close to retirement age. he wants me to provide him with my credit reports, then if i owe no one he'll place my name as a beneficiary with the kids and he'll remove his mom's name 69yrs and his sister 49 yrs old as the current beneficaries prior to us being married. i said to him his sister has more debt that him and i combine but yet she doesn't have to prove her self but i do,i think this is bull---s---t so i decided its time to walk away. no trust , in this relationship holding my credit card debt which i did accumulate years ago which he did end up paying back for me. He said he wants to move on, but yet after I dropped the court cases because of the benfit of the children and because his word i believe and really wanted the marriage to work it self out. He continues to hold this over my head . we decided to forgive one another i went to therapy regarding my spending habit, have improved, have my own apt, pays on time never missed a payment, so i have changed, but he still needs me to prove myself.

Resolved Question: How should I spend this $10,000 cash wedding gift to better our circumstances?
(Fri, 22 Jan 2010 22:49:39 GMT)
1) I owe $1275 on a credit card with 23% APR. Minimum payment of $39 a month. 2) I owe $8500 on a credit card with 12% APR. Minimum payment of $166 a month. 3) We rent a 2 bedroom townhouse for $1100 a month, utilities are $600 a month. We each get $350 a month for gas, food, pet food, hair cuts, toiletries, or $700 a month total. 4) We make enough money to meet our needs and provide $300 a month for savings / emergency (this however includes dentist bills, car repairs etc.) 5) Our cars are both 10 years old, but reliable for being so old. 6) We have a total of $15,000 for retirement in IRA's. 7) I have student loan payments of $275 a month, currently in forbearance 8) We have twins on the way, and I am a SAHM with a tight budget 9) I have a credit score of 650, due in large part to one fraudt case I am having a hard time getting removed from my record. 10) Hubbies credit score is less than 400, and although I believe he owes about $12,000, I am not sure on that. 11) His employment is very reliable, but it is unlikely we will receive a sudden influx of cash like this again. He makes $45,000 a year, but great medical benefits and we have a 1% matched 401k. This comes to $3000 a month after medical, taxes and the 401k are taken out. 12) We will owe $2000 in taxes this year, but in future years we will not owe in taxes. 13) The amount of available savings we have right now is $2000. 14) He will get enough of a raise each year to cover at least inflation. 15) Hubbie is 46 years old, I am 32. 16) I will begin working again doubling our income in 5 years, but until then there will be almost no opportunities to stock pile cash. My thinking is I must pay off the $2000 in taxes (I worked as a nanny and didn't pay my taxes while working), and that the $1275 credit card at 23% is only logical. That leaves about $7000. I'm tempted to put at least half of this into something very available (like our savings account) to buy a new (likely used) vehicle in the near future. I am tempted to use the money to start paying off hubbies credit cards, which are years old now and would be VERY happy to make sweet deals to see some green from him after nearly a decade. Him having decent credit would be very very helpful, allowing us to eventually buy a house, get a loan for a car etc., which is completely impossible for us atm. Or paying my student loans now... or paying off almost all of my discover card bill. What do you think we should do with this money to better our situation given our circumstances? We are not careless in our spending. We were unemployed years ago. Don't assume all past debt is because of not budgeting. We might have had cancer for all you know. Our budget is very tight and reasonable. To spend less would be to not provide an adequate home for our children. But I didn't ask about our budget, just about our sudden influx of cash. I don't even see why you assume our budget is out of control? You think $700 total for food, pets, children, gas, oil changes, hair cuts and clothes is out of line? Would be interesting to see what kind of budget you would recommend for those things. If the car dies we need another car... otherwise my husband has no job and we then have no income. The last half of your answer seems very cut and paste and not thought out. In America, a car is simply a necessity. Without out one you cannot improve your situation, because you cannot work, much less get groceries. And if one of my children needs to go to the doctor, what do you do without a vehicle? I'm cool with used vehicles, but being as though our are both 12 years old, we do need to think about when we will need a new one. But I was talking about the money OUTSIDE of the budget, which I know is what is best for our family. Did you not see me list our income and budget? Sorry, I just can't believe you read a word I typed and then said that. Income - $3000 Food + Personal - $700 Utilities - $600 Rent - $1100 Credit Card Payments - $200 Savings / Emergency - $300 There is no "extra unbudgeted money". His debt is all very old credit card debt. It doesn't consist of anything else. I believe at least the majority of it is to discover.

Resolved Question: How to word a "no gifts card"?
(Wed, 20 Jan 2010 02:46:07 GMT)
A family friend got married in a private ceremony this past weekend and will be having a reception in a couple of weeks. The newlyweds are both of retirement age and really don't need anything. They would, however, like to take a "honeymoon" in the spring. What would be the appropriate way to word a card to let guests know not to bring gifts, but if they would like to contribute, please bring money to go towards a trip? I don't want it to sound like they're required to bring money! Thanks!

Resolved Question: Why do people have to be so negative..?
(Tue, 19 Jan 2010 08:12:15 GMT)
I got on a message board to ask a question about a past/old credit card that is still on my credit report that I don't have to money to pay off and asked how long it would be on there.. I got more negative comments then positive ones.. One person called me a looser that shouldn't have never been given a credit card if I had never planned on paying it off.. I asked another question about trying to save for retirement, that I did not have a lot of money at the end of the month to put towards an IRA and such, and I had one guy call me a deadbeat that needs to go on welfare,, He said this because I said I did not want to change jobs because I really love my job, although it is low paying and not that many people have jobs they love.. Why do people have to be so mean?

Resolved Question: Can I use the money in my retirement plan to payoff CC debt/student loans without penalty?

Resolved Question: I have 10k to invest. What is a good plan? My goal is to invest it long term.?
(Thu, 14 Jan 2010 15:50:22 GMT)
Here is my financial profile: 1. No credit card debt 2. Mortgage which I am comfortably paying each month AND I sometimes pay extra to the principal. 3. No kids or dependents to worry about (at the moment) Now, I have an extra 10K and I'd like to invest it. Someone suggested American Funds (mutual funds). Any other suggestions? My goal is long term. I'm 30 and have another retirement fund which I will make the max contribution this year. This 10k is seperate. Thank you so much for your time. So, I just spoke with my financial advisor. He suggested an annuity from Prudential. Some sort of package where even if the market tanks (a la sept. 2008) my funds would go into some sort of gradual fixed income mode. I'm so confused. Is this the right way to go?

Resolved Question: Should I pay off the debt?
(Wed, 13 Jan 2010 16:16:04 GMT)
I asked this before but wanted more opinions: $4000 in credit card debt from my ex boyfriend in my name on my credit (car repairs) he pays every month, but is unstable financially, i forsee much frustration; it will take him years to pay it off. he cant get a loan to take care of it at this time. I could pay the amount off by taking it from my retirement. i can do this without the extra 10% early withdrawal penalty. Should I pay it off and get the debt and the ex out of my life? I have no other credit card debt and I think it would improve my credit score tremendously. Obviously I'm leaning towards doing it...

Resolved Question: Missed my mother-in-law's retirement party, How do we fix this?!?
(Tue, 12 Jan 2010 16:41:06 GMT)
My wife has been busy the past couple weeks with holidays and the school semester starting. This morning she called her mother who was at her retirement party! Conversation went about like this: "What are you doing today?" "I'm at my retirement party right now..." "$#!+" "You aren't coming?!? Well I've got to go..." *click* My wife is terribly upset and I can only imagine how pissed my mother-in-law is. She has been extremely excited about retiring and this party specifically. Wife is in self-hating mode and I've sent to get some "I'm sorry I'm a irresponsible daughter" flowers and a sorry card to be waiting at her moms house. I need to get my wife out of her mental funk and my mother-in-law to not pissed. Any ideas on how I can help manage this situation? Some ideas on how to reinforce to my mother-in-law that we love her and are extremely regretful would be appreciated!

Resolved Question: Should I withdraw from my teacher's retirement?
(Tue, 12 Jan 2010 15:07:09 GMT)
I am 26 and I spent 3 years substitute teaching full-time- thus paying into teacher's retirement. I have a little bit of outstanding debt that I would really like to wipe out. I have a $2500 balance on a credit line with high interest, about $600 in store credit that is already in collections, and about $300 in utilities that is very late. My retirement balance is about $5500 and if I withdrew from it, I would get close to $4000. I am no longer teaching and at the moment, I do not see myself going back to it. I know most people will say don't touch my retirement but I feel that wiping the slate clean would relieve a lot of stress. My current expenses are not what is the problem, I work full-time and make enough to pay rent, utilities, my small credit card balance, car payment, student loan payment- it's the past debt that I wracked up that I just can't seem to get a ahold on. I feel like being out of debt now, is more important than saving for retirement. I also want to start fixing my credit and I can't do that until I wipe out the things I am struggling to pay. Any thoughts would be great. I understand what you are saying- the thing is that I can't really get another job- I already work full-time. And I can't transfer the credit balance because it is line of credit, not a credit card. I can't transfer it and I can't set up a payment plan. My minimum payment is only paying the interest on the damn thing. I know how much I would lose if I withdrew, I am okay with that because then I could actually save extra money each month rather than using almost every penny to pay off old debt.

Resolved Question: Should i just get rid of the debt?
(Sun, 10 Jan 2010 18:00:57 GMT)
I have credit card debt from an old relationship. My ex pays the credit card, but it will take years for him to ever pay it off. It's about $4000. I have money in a retirement fund and I could withdraw it without the additional early withdrawal penalty. I have no other credit card debt. Should I just pay it off and help out my credit (and get the ex out of my life)? the ex has bad credit and an unstable job history so the odds of him getting a loan and taking it over are slim. i feel it will just be frustration trying to make sure he pays every month.

Voting Question: Should I buy the car?
(Fri, 08 Jan 2010 19:38:25 GMT)
I have a Buick leSabre with 88,000 mi. on it in good cond. and a 1995 Saturn SL2 with 115,000 mi. in fair cond. Each vehicle is running fine. We put about 9000 mi./year on the Buick and 6000 mi./year on the Saturn. Recently I had an offer to buy my friends 2004 Honda Accord DX with 24,000 mi. for $9000 that is in impeccable cond. I was not in the market for a car, but the offer seemed like something I should consider. The Buick would fill the Saturns spot and I will sell the Saturn. My idea would be to take out a HELOC for about $13,000 and buy the car and pay off my $4000 credit card debt. Both my wife and I work with a combined salary of $140,000. We own a house-mortgage is $1700/month. We have one child 10yrs. old. Our total retirement savings is $160,000 and non-retirement is $12,000. We are both 41 yrs. old. Does this purchase make sense? Let me add to this to my question to clarify some things. First of all in response to "I think" I did not think I was complaining about anything, second I live in one of the most expensive areas of the country, Long Island NY. My property/school taxes alone are $8300/year for a modest house. Third, I put 14% of my salary into my retirement taken directly out of my check and my wife has 9% taken out each week. In addition I contribute $150 a month to my daughters college fund and another $100 to a general savings to remain liquid. So I am not sure how "Judy" can say I need to pick up the savings, because I only have $12,000. Maybe reallocate my savings, but we felt that compounding our retirement would be better, but sure I can put 7% in retirement and 7% in a non-retirement. I might not be the best at saving, but I am willing to bet that there are not many couples our age who own a home on long island or across the country with a child that accumulated over $160,000 so far.

Computers, cell phones, ATMs, high speed trains, space shuttles, Internet communication, wireless revolution, fast food, satellite spying, cloning, Genome mapping, NASDAQ trading, DVDs, international space station, plastic surgery, two car garages, New Age, two income household, digital quality, microwavable, retirement benefits, life insurance, bankruptcy, New Wave, credit card fraud, one hundred and fifty channels, online banking and surround sound. Many believe that the desire to live a lifestyle complete with the latest technology represents a wave of materialism sweeping through our nation. You will write a well-reasoned synthesis essay in which you defend (support), challenge (oppose), or qualify (partially agree and disagree with) the views of Thoreau as they relate to the view explained above. You will also address the views of modern day society, using the passages by Thoreau, a rock song, and a chart to support your claims. I need some help[ with this one. The song I picked was Rock Star. I think I can use it with this essay but how am I suppose to go about writing this? I need a lot of help. Please??? Plus, what exactly are the views of Thoreau????

Resolved Question: OK.... So camp Mayweather and camp Pacquaio are to meet on Tuesday....?
(Mon, 04 Jan 2010 20:09:21 GMT)
Now.. The official agenda is to discuss: 1) Pacquaio's defamatory lawsuit 2) The blood test situation 3) Promotional time status. Now guys, I know the most of you are avid boxing fans with a lot to contribute... I also know this is quite a sensitive subject... So... Let's get down to business.......... In my opinion, the lawsuit is only keeping the lawyers employed... In all fairness, there ain't no way Pacquaio and Mayweather are going to court...... - Fact!! The blood test situation: The dogs on the street know that, the richest ever fight in the history of boxing will not be postponed over a blood test nonsense... Now we really hit a sensitive nerve..... Can the fight be promoted in time by March 13th?? Yeah, sure the fight will be a sell out.. but can the guys not milk an extra few million given more time.... ???? Face it guys..... After this fight is done.... Pacquaio wants to go into politics back home, and Mayweather only came out of retirement for one last payday.... He won't be waiting around after the fight - win, lose or draw.... What you think guys??? Are we being willingly walked into running up our cred id cards???? I think it's one of the best public relations spin's ever conducted........ **Brilliant**

Voting Question: Online Finance/Budgeting Software for Couples?
(Sat, 02 Jan 2010 06:21:53 GMT)
Hi everyone! Need some advice here... I am looking into different (free) online software options - my man and I are trying to organize and consolidate our finances. I have been researching and so far, have found the following options: Mint, Quicken Online (they bought mint so it seems their basic version IS mint now), Geezeo, Wesabe, Rudder, Yodlee, Buxfer, Expensr, BudgetPulse, MoneyStrands Does anyone in the Yahoo Answers community have any opinions on any of these, based on experience with them hopefully? Pros/con for specific sites, that sort of thing? Remember, we are trying to create one profile that would encompass each of our individual AND joint bank accounts/credit cards/loans (investments/retirement too, maybe?) and collect them all together in one place, so that either of us can log on anytime and work with all of this info easily. Also, hopefully, we'd like a program that allows us to pay bills directly...? Thoughts? Thanks!

Voting Question: NEED IDEAS! How would you handle this financial crisis?
(Fri, 01 Jan 2010 04:06:15 GMT)
My wife and I are without income (I lost my job in January 2008). We receive $1200/month in Unemployment. Any income I make, lessens my Unemployment by the same amount...so unless I can find a worthwhile, full-time job (I have been unsuccessful), it makes more sense to just receive Unemployment. I have about $20,000 in a rolled over 401(k)--I have not touched this because it is all I have for retirement, the future, whatever, and I will not use it since it may be the only way to start anew. I am trying to find a way to use my money to obtain--quickly--a large amount of money. Enough to pay off my credit card bills (around $30,000) and such. We live modestly, but due to small, careless fast-food expenditures (and the such), we got into this predicament. I don't want to file Bankruptcy or go into Foreclosure. I am willing to sell my house, but want to end this all honorably, even though I can no longer afford to make payments on my credit cards. I need your BEST IDEAS. Buy a house and flip it? What? Ideas!!!! I need 'em. Thank you! Edward...I am not 13. I was answering a question of a 13-year-old...and was saying what I think she should say, etc. Sorry for confusion.

Resolved Question: Why do haters talk about Brett Favre's retirements so much?
(Tue, 29 Dec 2009 21:57:47 GMT)
Anyone with a clue knows why Favre pulled the retirement card. Ted Thompson disrespected Favre by going unto long term rebuilding mode when Favre still had a few good years left, and the Packers only needed acouple of good weapons for Favre to be contenders. You don't treat the franchise savior, and one of the greatest of all-time that way. Thompson basically wanted Favre to be a groom for a new QB and team. You can't expect a guy like Favre to just take that lying down. Then Thompson had the audacity to not give Favre his release and let him play where he wanted to play. He made him go to New York where he knew Favre would be miserable. Favre HAD to pull the retirement card to get to play where he wanted eventually. It's not like Favre is wishy-washy, it was carefully orchestrated on his part. The bottom line is that Thompson SHOULD have taken care of Favre and rewarded him for all those years of great service. Pick up a few free agents and draft offensive weapons for Favre. He could have had Randy Moss for practically nothing. Right about now would be the time to draft an Aaron Rodgers in the 1st round, not five years ago! Rodgers is turning about better than expected, but that is besides the point. I am sure those of sound mind and body will agree.

Resolved Question: Seriously considering retirement from Yu-Gi-Oh? Reasons I should or shouldn't?
(Mon, 28 Dec 2009 22:49:37 GMT)
As most of you probably know, I play Yu-Gi-Oh and I'm quite good at it. But as time goes on, it seems like these cards are just taking up space and wasting my money. I am seriously considering retirement, and I want to know what the answers community thinks about this. And by the Answers community, I mean the people who commonly answer in the Card Games category, not some newbie or idiot who just writes Yu-Gi-Oh is gay or something similar. In short, say Yes, you should retire because etc. or, No, you shouldn't retire because etc. I will still keep up with all the information on it, answer questions, and help you with deck construction, but I won't play the game itself. that's just the thing- I have no constructed deck
