Open Question: WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR RETIREMENT BENEFITS? Pension under the Employment Retirement Income Security Act of 1974?
(Thu, 11 Mar 2010 09:03:31 GMT)
My father, 51, had been an hourly worker in a machine shop of for 21 years and four months. On a Christmas holiday, he suffered a severe heart attack and was hospitalized for three weeks. At his release, his doctor said he was to rest at home for a couple of months. After his recuperation period, his doctor, along with his company’s physicians, was to decide whether or not my father should retired for disability reasons. They never got the opportunity to make this decision; in February, my father died of a second heart attack. He left my mother, four sons, two daughters and two-daughters in-law. His wife, my mother, still had four children at home. As part of my father's estate, my mother received the normal group insurance payments, the balance of his savings plan account, and the other benefits due her. However, my mother did not receive a pension from the company as a survivor of an eligible employee. When my mother and the company representatives had discussed the settlement, my mother had inquired about my father's pension and about my mother's right to receive it. The human resource department had stated that since contributions to this fund were made only by the company, no survivor’s benefits were provided. 1.What do you think my mother should do at this point? 2.What does the Employment Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 have to say about this issue?

Voting Question: what can I do tell him/to let him know without saying wrong things and scare him away?
(Sat, 06 Mar 2010 13:24:24 GMT)
I am in love with this guy who happened to be my best friend. We are both 18, known each other since we were 13 and we are very shy so I haven't told him how I feel yet. Lots of people I know asked me if we are dating, I told them we are just best friends and feeling disappointed as I said it because I want us to be more than that. My older brother thinks me and this guy are meant to be together. My feelings for him are so strong, it is most strongest feeling I ever felt in my 18 years life. When he is not around, I feel miserable and depressed and when he is around, I feel happy and cheery and he feels the same way. We always have a laugh, talk about things and his legs always touches mine (on purpose). We go to cinema together few times and he suggest in the future that we should go on holiday together and talked about when we in retirement homes. Whenever I get close to him, I keep telling myself "kiss him now!" and can't bring myself to do it. I don't want to ending up making same mistake as my mum did who was in love with this man and it was too late because he died in an road accident. She talks about him all the time and I can relate to her about love but not death part. So, what can I do tell him/to let him know without saying wrong things and scare him away?

Resolved Question: Do conservatives need crying complaining liberal pest around?
(Sat, 06 Feb 2010 17:41:43 GMT)
Let us ask Joe the Conservative. Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised. All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a conributor. Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. It is noon time and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university. Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like. I have."

Resolved Question: How many of you would like a book of the best vendors when you put on an event?
(Fri, 29 Jan 2010 00:03:53 GMT)
Ever plan, or want to plan, or planning to plan a birthday party, wedding, baby/bridal shower, charity, bachelor, retirement, holiday, or even a bar mitzvah. What ever the occasion, you want it to go flawlessly, and you want it stress free. O.K. Where do you go? Who do you believe? What reputation do they have, and "can I see it"? These are some questions that go around when planning an event. So................ how nice would it be if the answers were all in one place, like a book, and a website????????????

Resolved Question: How much money should cops make?
(Wed, 20 Jan 2010 22:14:16 GMT)
I always hear people say that cops don't make enough. How much should they make? In the San Fransisco police it says they start their cops with no experience at $106,678 a year. Not to mention the lucrative benefits and OT. enefits: * 10 paid vacation days a year during the first five years of service. * 15 paid vacation days a year during the next 10 years of service. * 20 paid vacation days a year after 15 years of service. * 4 floating holidays. * 13 paid sick days a year and several healthcare plans. * Bilingual pay and special assignment pay. * Retirement Eligibility at Age 50, with a maximum of 90% benefit based on years of service. Additional Benefits: * Employee Assistance Program. * Crisis Incident Response Team (C.I.R.T.) * Peer Support Program. * Catastrophic Illness Program. * Psychological Professionals (United Behavioral Health) * Stress Unit-Chemical Dependency. * Police Chaplains. * Psychiatric Liason Unit. Should cops really make more than this? Oops forgot about the source freaks. http://www.sfpdcareers.com/benefits.html Oops forgot about the source freaks. http://www.sfpdcareers.com/benefits.html

Resolved Question: Anyone got some tips on how I can better handle my dad's large load?
(Sat, 16 Jan 2010 16:15:17 GMT)
Tomorrow I will be helping my father move into a retirement home and dispose of a lot of his unwanted goods. Since my mom died, he's been a very lonely man, unable to do a lot for himself. I really want to make tomorrow extra special for him since I know he's going to be extra emotional. I'm unsure as to how to best handle his large load as I've never really done this before and am alone in this job. I own a small pick-up truck and can lift most items myself so moving him into the home isn't at all a concern for me. If needed, I can also finish him on Monday since it's a holiday for my job. What I really could use is any advice from others who've done this before. How can I make it a little more special for him when he moves into this retirement/nursing home? In other words, how can I handle my dad's large load of emotional baggage?

Resolved Question: Missed my mother-in-law's retirement party, How do we fix this?!?
(Tue, 12 Jan 2010 16:41:06 GMT)
My wife has been busy the past couple weeks with holidays and the school semester starting. This morning she called her mother who was at her retirement party! Conversation went about like this: "What are you doing today?" "I'm at my retirement party right now..." "$#!+" "You aren't coming?!? Well I've got to go..." *click* My wife is terribly upset and I can only imagine how pissed my mother-in-law is. She has been extremely excited about retiring and this party specifically. Wife is in self-hating mode and I've sent to get some "I'm sorry I'm a irresponsible daughter" flowers and a sorry card to be waiting at her moms house. I need to get my wife out of her mental funk and my mother-in-law to not pissed. Any ideas on how I can help manage this situation? Some ideas on how to reinforce to my mother-in-law that we love her and are extremely regretful would be appreciated!

Resolved Question: Since real estate is worth more than gold...?
(Fri, 08 Jan 2010 03:08:48 GMT)
...shouldn't we combine funerals with weddings, christenings, retirement parties, and open houses? For example: "Danforth Giddle passed away Wednesday the 24th after a lengthily battle with local drug lords in Tijuana. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Marta Giddle, 23, who will be marrying Spencer Juarez on the same day at the Holiday Inn Resort in the Cervesa Room after the memorial service. Marta and Spencer, while still grieving for the loss of Danforth, welcome little Spence Jr. into the world and his christening, officiated by Padre Blow, will take place at the pool side after the Juarez/Giddle wedding. Drinks will be provided (because, let's be honest, you'll need 'em by this point). After Master Juarez's christening, please join the family in the Mexicali Tia lounge to offer congratulations to Tito Rodriguez, who is stepping down as VP of the Juarez Family Bidness after 6 fruitful, abundant years. Tito plans to move to Venezuela and change his name to Bonita. Concluding the day's festivities, all are invited to visit Danforth Giddle's 16 bedroom, 9 bathroom villa-style home in the Rosarito region of Tijuana, in the Baja California area. This home, located on a quiet cul de sac near schools with armed, private guards, boasts an amazing Western view where you can watch the sunset over the tumbleweeds! An existing staff will cook authentic Swiss food, and make sure your rooms are cleaned every morning! Two of the bathrooms come equipped with jet tubs, HD TVs, and bowling alleys! Act fast - priced at just 11.9 million, this Southern Paradise is sure to move fast! Poll: Chips and pop, or chocolate and coffee?

Resolved Question: Is the 2010 situation growing more difficult for Democrats by the day?
(Mon, 04 Jan 2010 00:07:53 GMT)
Four House Democrats from swing districts have recently chosen not to seek re-election, bringing to 11 the number of retirements that could leave Democratic-held seats vulnerable to Republicans. More Democratic retirements are expected. Over the holiday break, another Democrat, freshman Rep. Parker Griffith of Alabama, defected to the GOP. "I can no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy, and drives us further and further into debt," said Griffith, who voted against Democrats' three biggest initiatives in 2009: health care, financial regulation and reducing global warming. In the Senate, at least four Democrats — including Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and five-term Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd — are in serious trouble. The party could also lose its grip on seats Obama held in Illinois and Vice President Joe Biden long occupied in Delaware. Going into 2010, Democrats held a 257-178 majority in the House and an effective 60-40 majority in the Senate, including two independents who align themselves with Democrats. But they face an incumbent-hostile electorate worried about a 10 percent unemployment rate, weary of wars and angry at politicians of all stripes. Many independents who backed Democrats in 2006 and 2008 have turned away. Republicans, meanwhile, are energized and united in opposing Obama's policies.

Resolved Question: Would Americans have the following if NOT for Unions?
(Fri, 25 Dec 2009 22:53:00 GMT)
Standard 40 hour work week Over-time pay Paid Holiday's off Extra pay for working on Holiday's Paid Vacation Time off Sick Leave pay Rest Breaks every 2 hours Safe Work Environments in manufacturing, warehousing, transportation/shipping, etc . . . Retirement at the age of 65 A Middle Class Job Security (before NAFTA, CAFTA, FAFTA) While it's true that Henry Ford (no saint by any means) was the First to instigate much of this (the 40 hour work week for example). Because as a Smart capitalist/Industrialist, he knew that if he truly wanted to sell a lot of cars. And have a Consistent Profit coming into the company. The people making them should be able to afford them. And Also that Over Worked Employee's produce only quantity and NOT Quality! Please provide your Hypothesis as to why Employers would have done these things on their own. Ford was Scorned by his contemporaries for his changes to the work environment. Hey, I should add that alot of Today's Unions are In Bed with the Employers. Unions Did NOT destroy Detroit like some say. Union's didn't purchase Inferior materials. It was the Executive Officers of the individual companies who did this. Just look at how the Mucky Mucks Destroyed Tucker. At GM, they were sending Trucks to Hitler right up until FDR put a Stop to Aiding the Enemy, Like Prescot Bush (GW's Father) R. Hearst, Rockeffeller and others were. People wanting a fair wage for a Honest days work is Not nor has it Ever Been the Problem. Funny how Toyota Factories in America have No Problem paying a Livable wage and Bennifits. As for Retirement cost's. Are you anti-union people saying that the employee that is too old to work should just go out and Shoot themselves vs. expecting the company they gave their life to, to Honor the agreement made with the Employee's? This is the Apathy Pres. Carter spoke of in his 1979 Malise speach and what the canidate Reagan Laughed at as Bushit! To Demsmier . . . and everyone else. Watch it! 15 years Vested Teamster and Shop Steward! Not to mention several years as a Warehousing Supervisor. No, thanks to Free Trade Agreements that bennifit ONLY the Company is what has sent our Middle Class Job's oversea for Cheap Labor! Just ask my Friends at the Portland Oregon (Birth Place of) Freightliner Truck Manufactoring. One CEO (Jim Hebe) got a 10 million dollar bonus (buy out of his contract) for destroying the Class 8 truck market back in 2000. "Hear that Giant Sucking Sound" Ross Perot wasn't talking about Union's. He was speaking Directly to these FAFTA (Fcuk Americans Free Trade Agreements) put forward by Industry! To all who are on Slavery (salary) That's your individual Contract with the company. To the rest of you Hourly people who are NOT getting Over Time pay. Get some Balls and Contact BOLI (Bureau of Labor and Industry) Wal-Mart is about to have it's ars handed to it over this very issue.

Resolved Question: Do you have to work on Christmas or know anybody who has to work on Christmas?

Luckily I got it off, but there are people where I work(At the retirement home) that still have to work because we can't close down a retirement home on Christmas. But Holiday pay is a bright side to it but I wouldn't want to do it. Anyway, do you work Christmas or do you know someone who is? Are you dreading it? And what is your job?

Resolved Question: Can someone please offer me some advice.?
(Tue, 15 Dec 2009 08:52:28 GMT)
My husband and I have worked all our lives to give our 2 kids (girl and boy) a good life and upbringing. It involved my husband working shift work and doing a lot of overtime and my travelling 2 hours each way door to door, leaving home very early in the morning and returning home at 6p.m. My children are now adults and my husband and I are enjoying our retirement. My daughter is 31 and lives in another country, she left when she was almost 21 because she was so unhappy at uni and with her life in general. She has been home on holidays a number of times and my husband and I have visited her twice. She met and married a person on the internet and is very happily married but does not have any children. However, the problem is that when she left she absolutely broke my heart and I am afraid it will never mend. I have told her this a few times. But recently we had an argument over the phone and she said that she felt I put her down by telling my friends that she broke my heart, she said that she felt like she is my big disappointment. This is so unfair as we bought her a beautiful gold bracelet as a graduation present last year and told her how proud we were of her. She says that I traumatised her when she was a child, this is also so unfair. Earlier this year my husband and I were on our way to pick her up to take her to the airport (we had to drive 4 hours) and we ran out of petrol on the freeway, we couldn't get to the break down lane and we had a terrifying experience with a number of semi trailers who couldn't see us until they were almost right on us. We both thought we would be killed. However, the road patrol arrived and helped us. When we arrived at my daughters place, she wasn't at all concerned for us and just wanted us to get her to the airport. It is impossible to tell you everything here, but now I am so angry at her and I have told her to ring her father and speak to him but I won't be speaking to her. At the moment I feel like this might be forever. I have had some counselling on this matter and the counsellor says I am grieving for the realationship. I feel like she has focused on the few "bad things" she thinks I did in her life but hasn't thought about all the good things I have done for her, I know that they far outweigh the bad. Cany anyone offer me some advice on how to go about repairing our relationship, although I feel like it is only me that wants it to be repaired. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Resolved Question: Having a problem with a co-worker at my job, how should i deal? Kinda long.. any info appreciated.?
(Sat, 12 Dec 2009 14:46:43 GMT)
Ok i have worked at my job for just over 3 years, i love my job and 90% of my co-workers are awesome people who i love to be around. But there's this one woman who is getting less and less tolerable as the years go by. When i started working there in 2006 i noticed as the holidays approached she would get sad, depressed, and distant. Trying to be a good friend i inquired as to what had her so down. learned one of her kids had passed away the year before on the 31st of Dec and it was devastating for her. It was a Heath Ledger type deal where they simply found him dead in a hotel room. He was 24 or 25 yrs old. Well the first couple years i knew her i always excused her sad, mopey behavior because i understand there's no statue of limitations on grief and it is hard. I myself have lost family that was close and i went thru depression, suicide all that and i went to counseling got help and i am better now thanks to all that. This woman is starting to wear out her welcome so to speak. This year will be almost 5 years since her son died and she's getting worse each year. She refuses to allow us to listen to x-mas music at work for the holidays because it makes her too sad to be a functional employee. She refuses to get grief counseling or get on anti-depressants because she says they won't help. She talks about hiding in her closet and wanting to die because she's so sad. She tells any one else with a problem or issue that their stuff isn't as sad or depressing as hers and she downplays anyone Else's grief as not being as bad as hers because people don't understand what it's like to lose a child. She went so far as to tell me when i lost my grandfather to cancer that it wasn't a big deal and that you expect your grandparents to die before you so it's not traumatic. Even though i spent 1 year in a deep depression and tried committing suicide over it it's still not as sad and terrible as her son dying. I'm getting fed up with this woman, i have tried helping her, we have all suggested finding a counselor for her and she refuses. She claims she tried a counselor for 1 session and she didn't like what they had to tell her so she left and never went back. Now management also agrees this woman is a Debbie Downer of sorts but no one says anything to her about it. She is 6 years from retirement and i think that has a lot to do with it. I don't want to have to spend the next 6 years walking on eggshells 365 days a year for this woman. I understand grief is hard but shouldn't you start to recover at some point? The other thing that is irritating is that we work in health care and have to watch training videos throughout the year. Last year we had to watch a MRSA video and the CEO of our hospital was in the video because her son had passed away from MRSA. For 30 minutes of the video the CEO talks about how her son died and she wants to educate people so they dont go thru what she did. This co-worker of mine was exempt from the watching the video because it was to upsetting and she refused. She didnt even try to watch it she just heard what was in it and freaked out. How can i handle this women? I care about her and she's a sweetheart but every winter for about 3 months she is inconsolable and intolerable. They rest of the time she's better but you still have to watch what you do and say. PS: i'm putting this in womens health because she's a girl and it is a health issue. I didn't see a grief section and i think i'll get better answers in this section because more people come here. Thanks everyone. PSS: Please star this if you think you know someone who can give me some good info?

Resolved Question: Parents, what does your budget look like?
(Fri, 11 Dec 2009 21:56:30 GMT)
Hubbie makes $45,000 a year which comes to $2940 per month after taxes, 1% retirement, and health insurance. Our monthly budget - Rent, Water, Trash - $1070 Utilities: Cable, Phone, Internet, Cell, Gas, Electric, Credit Card Payments, Student Loans = $870 Hubbies Money: Food, Gas, Medicine = $350 My Money: Food, Gas, Toiletries, Cleaning Supplies, Pet Food, Baby Products = $350 Savings / Emergency / Other = $300 (this money is also for holidays, vacations, car repairs, dental, medical etc.) This is working out for us. Not much for retirement but with 2 little ones on the way and me staying at home it just isn't the best time for it. How do other SAHM and working moms budgets look? Do other families budget this way, or do you just wing it? I wish it could be cheaper, but we live in a major city. I attempted to find places further out, but within 45 minutes of hubbies work, the cheaper places are not safe, and the schools are rated very poorly. Here the place is safe and the elementary school is rated 10/10 so afraid to leave! Our utilities vary quite a bit. Right now electric is $65 a month, but in summer it is $275 due to running the AC all the time. Gas goes from $60 to $120 in the winter.

Resolved Question: Can anybody indicate how much money will this trail cost taxpayers Texas politician charged with harboring?
(Wed, 02 Dec 2009 03:01:09 GMT)
McALLEN, Texas — A south Texas politician charged with harboring illegal immigrants and called a "master manipulator" by a federal prosecutor can leave home to work but for little else after investigators alleged she tried to bribe witnesses. Hidalgo County Commissioner Sylvia Handy teared up Tuesday as U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos clamped restrictions on her movements, but avoided spending the holidays in jail for violating the conditions of her bond. Handy and her husband, Juan Espronceda, were charged with harboring illegal immigrants who were given county positions and salaries, but only worked in the couple's Weslaco home, according to an indictment unsealed in April. Federal investigators alleged Handy defrauded the county of $111,000 in salaries for the immigrants. Some of their county salaries also went toward paying a $53,000 bill consolidation loan Handy took out in 2004, according to the indictment. Handy allegedly instructed a county human resources employee to prepare a fraudulent job application for one woman using an assumed identity, including someone else's Social Security number. At one point, Handy promoted her. The woman moved in 2004 into a house in Mercedes owned by Handy and continued collecting county paychecks. In June 2005, the woman withdrew $4,400 from her assumed identity's retirement account. http://www.star-telegram.com/448/story/1802643.html Can anybody indicate how much money will this trail cost taxpayers Texas politician charged with harboring illegal immigrants and called a "master manipulator ?

Resolved Question: Just HOW indebted are dems to repubs?
(Wed, 02 Dec 2009 01:09:55 GMT)
Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffee pot with water to prepare his morning coffee. Joe can afford the coffee because corporate loving rich Republicans exported our jobs overseas with NAFTA and CAFTA. With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications work because money-grubbing Republicans refuse to place price controls on drugs, thereby allowing pharmaceutical companies to earn enough money to pay for the extensive R&D and take the risks necessary to create miracle drugs. But the drugs still cost too much because government mandated health insurance has artificially increased the demand for medications with no one to police the prices, but that’s OK since Joe’s Bush-supporting bossman pays all but $10 of Joe's medications. In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient, none of which are damaging to his skin because some animal-hating sadistic corporations paid some scientists to swab the shampoo in some poor rabbit’s eyes. Just for kicks. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some dollar-worshipping conservative developers built some nice houses with pretty yards 15 miles from the industrial sector of the city, and Joe drives his comfortable and affordable “Japanese” car made in Georgia without the inflated cost of union labor, and Joe can stop on his way home to pick up a package of reasonably priced T-shirts at the evil Wal-Mart, instead of having to park his car and take a filthy subway to pay twice as much downtown. Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because his parents instilled in him the value of hard work so he studied when he was in school and learned that he could get by just fine without relying on the government. Joe's employer pays these benefits because Joe's employer knows Joe’s a valuable employee and Joe’s employer doesn’t want him to go work for his competitor. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get another job pretty quick because he’s a self-starting go getter who has a lot of friends at church and from college that he can call to find more work. It's noontime and Joe would need to make a bank deposit but doesn’t need to go to a bank because evil monopolist Bill Gates helped make computers useable to the general public and he can automatically pay bills thanks to the economies of scale of Bank of America or Wachovia installing the expensive equipment to allow Joe this convenience. While Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC, Joe doesn’t have to worry about Democrats in Congress pulling the rug out from under the real estate market again like they did in the 80s. At least Joe hopes they learned their lesson. Joe pays a low rate mortgage because Americans voted for that war monger Ronald Reagan in 1980 and Bill Clinton had the good sense to reappoint Alan Greenspan. And Joe can afford a nicer home, not only just because of the low mortgage rates, but also because he gets to keep more of his hard earned money because Republican Presidents in the 1980s and in 2001 cut his taxes. After work this evening, Joe plans to visit his father at his farm home in the country that Joe’s dad still owns because his landed-gentry Republican County Commissioners have refused to steal his land in the name of a higher tax base. Joe gets in his car for the drive because the government added additional lanes to the local highways that people actually use instead of throwing money away on a regional rail system that studies project people would little use. Joe gets to his house in record time because death-loving Republicans allow you to go 65 and 70 mph, and you can because pollution loving Republicans don’t make you plug your car in overnight so you can drive for 2 hours at a maximum speed of 20 mph. Joe arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house, but he doesn’t because when his grandparents moved to the United States they learned to speak English and didn’t spend their time complaining about how the government wasn’t doing enough for them. The house didn't have electricity until some military-industrial power company plopped a big ol’ nuclear power plant over by the river. Joe is happy to see his father, so they go to the local bar and enjoy a beer and a cigar, where Joe’s dad tells him that if the estate tax is repealed, Joe can keep the farm in the family for a fourth generation and won’t have to sell it to pay the taxes. Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on NPR. The reporters keep telling stories about how bad corporations only care about profit and that higher taxes will allow the government to “invest” in our future. They don’t mention that the beloved Democrats have vilified the very people who have provided us jobs, good and services from their sma

Resolved Question: Why is my boyfriend so cheap?
(Mon, 23 Nov 2009 12:54:14 GMT)
My boyfriend of 5 years is so cheap and has a lot of money saved. Between his bank account and retirement fund he has about $50K saved. He makes about $12K more than me a year and I have no savings account and only a few K in my retirement fund. He hardly ever buys me gifts for the holidays or birthdays. He takes me out to eat, a movie or maybe a bar afterwards. He is also in grad school and comes to my house to use my computer for his school work because he is too cheap to buy his own. I know his monthly bills are more than mine are, but I don't think that's a reason to be so cheap. He is also always in my house for dinner or makes himself something because I don't cook every day. Once in a while I get him to buy me things or loan me money when I need it, but that's only when he is drinking and tipsy. I know he was brought up living on welfare and hardly had anything and maybe that's why he likes to save. Why do you think he's so cheap?

Resolved Question: Once again -- a solution for the economic doldrums?
(Sun, 22 Nov 2009 02:47:42 GMT)
New projections show little recovery despite the bailouts and stimulus directed toward the banks and corporations, nor do propositions for tax-breaks seem to offer much. Banks in particular seem to have returned to their carpetbagging, raising interest rates and lowering available credit, while continuing to give bonuses and golden parachutes to their executives. Meanwhile, news reports say retailers are already desperately cutting prices to try and bolster holiday sales. In Miami where I live (and am facing bankpruptcy), every week sees new exposures of felony corruption in government, while the State has ingeniously disguised what I would estimate as a 30% real unemployment rate by simply closing all the unemployment offices. I filed online (the only method) and received a refusal of benefits letter which said "...the State of Florida has no record of your qualifying employment...". Of course not. I worked in New York last year. I followed the recorded message after waiting half an hour, only to be given another 800 number which in turn gives another message after another half-hour wait: "Due to the volume of calls, we are unable to take your call at this time. (*Click*)." A dozen tries like that and I realized I was facing a brick wall. SO HERE IS MY SUGGESTION. If the problem is indeed getting money into the public's hands as the experts say -- why not circumvent the banks? Take those people like myself who fell victim to the banks' usurious practices of selling "debt-equity" to one another and charging arbitrary and stratospheric interest rates (mine are as high a 31.4%). Select those who have repaid the principle, say, 3 times over as I have -- and make those debts amnestied by law, either permanently or for a period of time like the eighteen months that the banks were allowed to continue their practices which will become illegal in February of 2010. Or even six months! In my case, that would give me $600 each month to put directly back into the enconomy -- and I am sure there are millions like me. Please, abstain for calling me an idiot for borrowing money at 30% as has happened when I offered this idea in the past. My loans were not "introductory rates" that expired, but fixed-rate below 10% that were sold from one bank to another which set new rates as allowed by the small print in the credit-card agreement; a practice which is now illegal under the law. The most onerous of these was Chase, which took over my card and account when it was gifted all of WAMU's assets by the FDIC. Thus, Chase has collected from me for the last 18 months on a debt for which it paid nothing, and meanwhile paid THEIR bad debt though my taxes, as well as part of the recent $65M "retirement package" given the CEO of bank of America which also holds one of my notes.. That one originated at Suntrust, was sold to MBNA which raised the rate from 8% to 24.9%, and then on to B of A which raised it to 29.9%. I have been paying that one faithfully for 9 years, and -- once again, their bailout and their executives windfalls as well. That's about it. Now on disability, I can pay no more. So, 90 days delinquent, I am facing bankruptcy a age 60 as I said. Meanwhile Chase declared last-quarter profits of $3.47Bn, and harasses me daily for the $2K I "owe" them from WAMU, ruining my credit rating so badly I cannot even get a Christmas part-time at Macy's because of my poor FICO score. Like I said: amnesty the debt. Given the chance with the publicly supported bailout, the banks and brokers have not shown any indication they will rehabilitate. So why not give me, the consumer -- and people like me who have shown good faith by paying consistently over a long time -- a chance to do better? Reuben: Despite the seemingly condescending "just simply", I did enjoy the links you supplied to the Cabalist prophet. I liked his stating his viewpoint in an unequivocal way. The thing is with prophets; from Isaiah to Nostradamus -- what they predict is unprovable before the fact, and often arguable afterward. It's when philosophy begins to call itself science that I get worried. Take Josef Goebbels, for instance. frenzy: Right with you up until that last sentence denouncing President Obama. What has he conceivably got to do with the creation or existence of the Federal Reserve? P.S. frenzy: ...If that's who you mean by "Oma". Unclear to me. It's just a guess that was a typo.

Resolved Question: Please help with my speech? Title:My Dream Holiday?
(Sun, 15 Nov 2009 07:48:50 GMT)
I need help with my speech contest next Wednesday. Please read the following script. My Dream Holiday Everyone has a dream holiday and take time to relax at their favorite places. You may have you dream holiday around the world or just in you own home. My dream holiday would be to go to Southern Europe. I choose Southern Europe as a destination is because mainly I have never been there and I hope to have a holiday in a different country. I’ve always enjoyed studying the history and the geographical parts of Europe and it is really interesting. When studying it, I sometimes imagine myself standing beside the Tower of Pisa or take pictures at the Arch of Constantine. I would like to know how it feels like to be inside the Coliseum where gladiators used to battle. To crack the codes of lost symbols and to experience the adventures they have often said. Visit the famous churches in Vatican City like the ones in the novel “Angels and Demons”. One thing I’d really want to do is to enjoy the architectures of Roman art. For example, the Temple of Apollo, Theatre of Epidaurus, and so on. Architectural sculptures carved neatly and cautiously to make perfect statues. Their visual examination in art is different than the ones people in Taiwan have. Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo are one of the few famous artists there and whose art I’d like to enjoy if I ever go there. Then I can know more about it. I’d especially want to go there in winter time to take my time and enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate in the coldness under all the sightseeing attractions while sketching all the beautiful sceneries I see. I often copy the drawing of pictures and that’s rather meaningless, sketching in front of the real place is the true work of art from you. Also, trying dishes made from real Europeans is an important thing on my list. I trust they have an extraordinary taste in their recipes, unlike the everyday dishes we eat. I see shows on T.V. and they have really neat food that I have never seen before that I would like to try. I wish to see the aura of Roman Dynasty. Walking around the medieval boundaries of Rome and enjoy its ancient historical sites which once have been ruled by powerful empires. Hearing Greek mythology always gives me the excitement to go there. Perhaps your dream holiday is after retirement or on a vacation. Anyhow, there’s a big dream and a big holiday waiting to up front. Maybe it’s not today or tomorrow, but it will come someday. I will make my dream holiday come true and hopefully so will yours. Grab your chance and let your dream holiday happen.

Job 1 benifits -Scholarships -Health Benifits, voluntary dental insurance, life insurance, rx discountcard -voluntary cancer insurance -paid weekly -opportunity for advancement job 2 benifits -Salary is several dollars over min wage (downside only get paid once a month) the longer you are there (in months) the better the pay raises -state pays 100% employees health benefits even preventive care benefits, and prescription payment help, dental and life insurance program available -Uniforms (including laundry experience) and equipment is furnished at no cost - free meals while on duty -legal protection plan -vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement -work is four days on four days off...basically .12 hours a day for four days...My aunt worked a schedule like this and loved it...I think this would be a nice schedule that I could stick to as well Here is my situation, experience, edu ect -18 years old with resume built up..have been working since age 16. -Took 3 years of computer networking courses in high school which lead ----into an internship that gave me 9 months experience in the IT and engineering dept. working in the office at a prestigious steel mill! awesome!! (the company has scholarship opportunities!!!) She said instead of working in the company stores I could be working with her...basically in the main office because they are CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS IT AKA Computer networking!! With the info she handed me found the benifits are: -Scholarships -Health Benifits, voluntary dental insurance, life insurance, rx discountcard -voluntary cancer insurance -paid weekly -opportunity for advancement but here's the other job I could get into that would train me...(Correctional officer for Texas) would have to go to get a screening ...hotel, gas, food for that i would have to pay myself unfortunately but the recruiter said once I get a call back the state pays for the 6 weeks training...all the lodging, transportation ect. benefits: -Salary is several dollars over min wage (downside only get paid once a month) the longer you are there (in months) the better the pay raises -state pays 100% employees health benefits even preventive care benefits, and prescription payment help, dental and life insurance program available -Uniforms (including laundry experience) and equipment is furnished at no cost - free meals while on duty -legal protection plan -vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement -work is four days on four days off...basically .12 hours a day for four days...My aunt worked a schedule like this and loved it...I think this would be a nice schedule that I could stick to as well -Once I reach age 21 I could switch to a federal prison which will most likely have more benefits? ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED!!!

Resolved Question: What do ppl have against state or federal employees?
(Mon, 26 Oct 2009 18:39:29 GMT)
I heard someone bad mouth teachers and other government employees? What is it? Is it because of the paid holidays, the retirement benefits, the healthcare packages? Are ppl jealous because they think government employees have better jobs and don't deserve them?

Resolved Question: Young Marriage vs. Work - please help?
(Fri, 23 Oct 2009 14:09:37 GMT)
So I am 25 years old and so is my husband. We have been married for almost two months now. My husband has his own business and he is very well off financially for now. The business that he has can fail anytime. He thinks that he has a couple years of life left in it, and then he would need to find something different or go and work for someone else. For that reaosn he is in school full time right now getting his Masters as a fallback plan. Our schedule is very tough. He goes to work from 9-6 and then he has class every week night from 6:30 until 10. So we eat dinner, talk for a bit and go to bed. Recently, he started working weekends. By weekends I mean during the day, so he is still home after 6 and we can go out then, etc. We just never get to do day stuff on those weekends or wake up together nad lay in bed. Weekends are the only time that we really ahve with each other, although it still includes errands, homework etc. So I can't wait till the weekend. He explains to me that typically if he needs to come into work on those weekends its because he stands to make thousands of dollars, especially now during holiday season. So his quote is "I want to milk this thing for as long as I can because I dont know how long it will be there fr, with people losing jobs". We live in a very nice house, drive very ncie cars, and have a very nice lifestyle. I am perfectly fine having what we have now or even less, but he is a more ambitious one already thinking of sending kids to college, our retirement etc. It really bothers me that we are not on the same page. I talk to him about it almost every single day and he is getting sick of it. He claims that he is the one who gets up at 7 in the morning and comes back at 10 at night and he is not complaining. But I, who have much more free time, nag him to death instead of being supportive. So recently, in the middle of a fight he asked me...do you want me to miss those opportunities on the weekends when we are talking about thousands of dollars, and some pocket change so that we can go to a movie or something? I don't know what to respond...what is right...but I do know that I am feeling neglected and that I miss him. Would I be unreasonable for telling him to miss those opportunities sometimes?

Resolved Question: Morally, have I done anything wrong here? What's the right thing to do going forward?
(Wed, 14 Oct 2009 16:24:23 GMT)
I am going to highlight the main points to avoid writing a novel. If you need clarification on something please ask and I will explain. There are two issues: my contribution toward the birthday party and me reimbursing my cousin for half of my mom's plane fare. *** Contribution toward birthday party *** My grandmother's 92nd birthday party was this past Saturday. She has seven children. Five of the seven are on minimal fixed incomes. One gets a nice retirement check and another is employed. One of my aunts called me three weeks before the party and says, "We are all giving $100 torward the birthday party." She named off all my grandmother's children and her grandchildren who are here. It's usually the same group of people who contribute (a few aunts, me, and a couple of cousins) so I knew her claims weren't true. I told her flat out that we didn't have a $100 for a birthday party. We are expecting a baby and now just isn't a good time for us. She snapped and me and told me to just give what I could. So I did. I gave $30. It wasn't a lot but I wanted to give something. Considering I always give (during other family functions and holiday dinners) I thought this would be sufficient. One of my cousins arrive at the party. I give him a hug and he said, "I'm gonna get you!" I said, "For what?" He said, "Aww, you know what's been going on. I'll get with you later." I'm standing there clueless. I catch him later and ask him what he was referring to. He said, "About what you gave for this and about half on your mom's plane ticket." I said, "What about this?" He said, "All you gave was $30." I said, "That's all I had." He said, "Well, okay ... but we were all supposed to give $100. I couldn't afford it either but I gave $50. You couldn't at least given $50." I said, "I didn't have that!" My family has a history of planning elaborate events without adequate funding. They also have a history of talking about me behind my back. For whatever reason they feel I have money. They assume that if I am married, we have a new house, two cars, and no kids, that we should be able to afford to give. The fact that he mentioned this tells me someone was talking about me behind my back. Otherwise he wouldn't have know what I gave. Was I wrong for only giving $30? May I add that my brother, who is employed, came and didn't pay one red cent. One of my other cousins also came and didn't pay a red cent. *** Reimbursement for half of my mom's plane fare *** We didn't really get into this after the discussion about the birthday dinner contribution. As we were leaving, he caught my brother and told him, "Hey, I need to get with you and your sister about paying half of your mom's plane ticket." My brother wasn't really saying anything. My cousin said, "You know I'm single. I live alone. IT's just me." Then he said, "Wait a minute. You live alone too. It's just you. I'll get it from her (pointing to me). She has a husband." The ticket was $200 round-trip. My mother has been in town for 16 months taking care of my grandmother. Although her brothers and sisters are capable of helping out, they rarely and are not consistent (some are married, some have medical issues, some don't live here, some just make excuses) so my mom has taken the responsibility of being here for her. My cousin wanted to help her get home and since all my grandmother's kids are in town he felt she should be able to leave. I feel he really had her best interest at heart. About a month ago, my mom mentioned that my cousin was going to buy her a plane ticket. I thought that was odd but a nice gesture. He called me a week or so later and asked me to price so tickets. So I did. I called him back with the prices. He said, "Okay. I was going to get with you and _____ (my brother) about going in to get her a ticket. I flat out told him I did not have it at that time. I also told him my brother had just moved out from living with us and probably wouldn't be able to afford it. He actually owed us money. He said he would put it on his debit card once he got paid and we could pay him back. I told him I'd need to speak to my husband and brother about it. A month had passed. My mom said my cousin had purchased the ticket. I thought nothing of it until he brought it up at the birthday party this past weekend. Later, when my brother and I were talking about it, he said he was not paying anything toward the ticket. He feels my mom should repay the debt. My husband is annoyed at the situation because I told my cousin I didn't have the money. Deep down inside I know he feels my family is nothing but a bunch of money hounds. Especially after he found out about the comment at the birthday party. But he hides his feelings. I don't feel I owe him a penny. I was upfront with him. But because of my family's mentality and the fact they think my husband and I should be able to afford things. If you don't hav

Resolved Question: Why do people always think they cannot live decently on their income?
(Thu, 08 Oct 2009 01:50:09 GMT)
People have never failed to amaze me with how irresponsible they’re with their money. I just had a friend who drives a Porsche, just bought a house worth nearly a million dollars a couple months ago, and he’s only 28. He just came up to me and asks me to borrow money! I was kinda pissed about this since I know he make probably twice what I do and he’s rather irresponsible with money, but I’d never imagine he’d get to stage where he’d have to run to someone and ask to borrow money. So I tried to make a deal with him, I told him to give me his watch which is worth $1500 to hold on until he paid me plus interest. He borrowed $400 and when he pays me back, he’d have to pay me 20% more. He got all pissed about it! I tried to explain him that I don’t even make nearly as much as he does and that people are always asking me to borrow money and if I just loan out money freely, I’d be broke all of the time. He didn’t took the offer but end up come back a couple hours later and took the offer. I also have tried everything to help friends with money issue. I know a couple who together make total of roughly $7,500 a month. I make about nearly that amount myself doing my job plus second job (which is more of a hobby). That couple was always broke and cannot really do much. I later found out that they put themselves in huge debt for house furniture plus they regular go to club and spend like crazy. So I offer to help them when they complained about how I’m lucky because I never had finical issue. In end they cry about how they have to put $500 aside a month out of $1200 a month they have after paying all bills! I have many people who come to me and talk to me about how I’m lucky because I am rich. This stuff really pisses me off. I bought a house that was falling apart and on foreclosure that was worth only $140K to fix it up instead of goes out and spending $350 on a new good house. Yet people always comment on how nice the house is and how big it is! I also could have bought a new expensive sport car such as Maserati that I’d kill to have, but opted for a old beat up jeep that I bought for $4000. Plus I put lot of money in saving for annual out of country trip, holidays, emergency, and retirement. So yeah I’m not rich myself. I just manage money very careful, shop for bargain, plan ahead, and everything. Hell I even took a couple classes on how to repair automobile, plumbing, and other things just so I can repair things around the house. Yet people act like as if I am rich and make comment about how I have money. I even helped a friend who was in similar situation move out of his parents house and he was making only $3000 a month and he did exactly as I told and now he own a decent house and a decent truck, is never broke, have a very nice fishing boat, and making a total of nearly $4000 a month before his wife’s income, spend a lot of time in the summer traveling around fishing in exotic spots, and not long ago he told me he’s starting to look into buying a lakeside hotel in next 5 years which was something he have always thought was impossible. This was one of my most proud moments with a friend ever. Yet it seems like most people get upset when I offer help and complain about how they cannot live on their budget even if they’re making huge amount! What is it with those idiots?! To last answer, I'm sure if you work hard on something only to have people say it happened simply because you were lucky, you'd be pissed too.

Resolved Question: Am I superficial for thinking like this? (long)?
(Wed, 07 Oct 2009 17:53:59 GMT)
I’m 26 years old, I used to wrestle in middle and high school and now I currently kickbox and do mixed martial arts pretty much as a hobby eventhough I fight professionally. I worked my butt off to come up with the money to attend commercial diving school and obtained the license. I’ve been doing commercial diving for about three years now and love my career very much! I make decent money (no I’m NOT rich! I don’t even make anywhere close to six digits a year!) but I managed it very carefully. I’m single and I already have my own house that I bought when it was on foreclosure and falling apart. I’ve been putting it back together and got two offering to buy it which I turned down. I also could have bought a very nice sport car, but I opted for a cheap old jeep. I also save a lot, so I am able to do things I enjoy fairly often, travel out of the country once a year, and have money stock away for emergency, holiday, and retirement. I work hard to stay in tiptop shape. I don’t always enjoy getting up and drag myself to gym and train my butt off. But I always do it regardless. I also enjoy do lot of things that require one to be in at least fairly decent shape such as hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and other things. So you can see I am not the type of person to sit around and do nothing all day. I keep my house as clean as I could. I’m no clean freak but I do make it to point where a guest could come in and not feeling cluttered or gross out in any way. Yes that includes scrubbing the floor and toilet weekly and not leaving dishes lay in sink for days which many didn’t do in their own home! So… am I wrong for not wanting to be with someone who is clearly out of shape, doesn’t have a life beside partying and bar hopping, bouncing from a job to another, not being wise with their money, and other things? Ever since I got back into dating scene after breaking up with a girlfriend of nearly two years who is from Ukraine and was once alternative for high diving Olympic team. When we break up, she was 28 and a yoga studio owner and instructor. Many girls and friends have been rather rude to me about how I select who I date. Especially if I turn them down or dump them. They keep say I’m superficial or a snob. Am I really that bad for feeling like I shouldn’t be dating those girls? I just don’t want a child to take care of or some crazy spouse who always sit at home and wondering what I’m doing, try to track me down by texting me every 10 minutes, or accusing me of cheating on them because I’m gone so much or nagging me all day about how their life suck because they don’t want to look for a job they like better or get a hobby!

Resolved Question: how should I deal with my mother-in-law?
(Mon, 28 Sep 2009 02:46:20 GMT)
I'm a new mum to twins and so far, things are going really well. It's hard work but i feel my husband and I are coping. Since they were born, I've been getting really annoyed with my mother-in-law as I feel she's too present. She comes EVERY weekend to stay and really takes over my house and the babies too. I don't have a problem with her coming to stay some weekends but feel that it's important for my husband, the children and I to be alone sometimes too (we haven't had 1 weekend to ourselves since they were born 2 months ago, and during the week my hubby is at work so quality time for the 4 of us is really limited from Mon to Fri.) She's now applying for retirement and wants to rent a flat near us to see them more often, and is talking about cooking their food for them when they are weaned and taking them on holiday next year. I think it's great that my childern have a grandma who loves them so much but at the same time am frustrated that she is taking over and not giving us the space I need. I've tried talking to my husband and saying that I feel a bit uncomfortable with the current arrangement but he said she'd be so upset if I said anything to her. Any ideas what I can do to create a bit more space for my immediate family without offending MIL?

Resolved Question: Should I return to College at 44 and Single?
(Sun, 13 Sep 2009 04:34:25 GMT)
Hello Everyone... I need a logical sollution to a Big Obstacle in my life with this economy how it is. I am unable... without... a College Degree to get paid much money at all and can at 44 and single barely get by. I have even taken quite a few childcare courses that are mandated by the state of Wisconsin.. to assist the teacher as an aide in the classroom in a private school setting. Public Schools have a pool on line they choose from.. your now in todays world.. unable to stop in and fill out an application in Public Schools anymore.. or to speak in person to someone. So. that has limited me.. the educational classes and pay.. I can obtain. Private Schools pay low.. 9.00 or less an hour. I am going to also take some Wilton Cake Decorating classes to perhaps work as a part time instructor.. which only get paid 140-280.00 a month.. for extra income which again is not much.. Still with these two jobs . I can't get far. I was thinking of going to College. But.. it would have to be part time which would take me double time to complete. I must work full time and can't do both full time. I was going to shoot to become a teacher with the economy.. but you must be available many days.. and I will be working days. I wanted to truly pursue an art BFA degree.. but again it would take me 8 years part time to complete. I was thinking of then creating my own small studio as well as putting my art in other shops and galleries.. and perhaps mabe one day owning my own gallery. This has been a dream of mine.. but with the economy.. it may not go over well or get me much money. Teaching in the Public Schools even if I had to move .. would be more secure.. and I would have a pension. But.. the time it would take me would be long and I am 44. I know.. retirement is 67.. not sure how far out you can exceed this by? I also am interested in writing.. and have journals of ideas.. and was thinking .. mabe..instead of College to take some independent classes in writing .. even if I have to pay and save out of pocket .. and who knows.. mabe it could turn into something or a Best Seller.. who knows.. I am trying to as what my best option would be. I love art the most.. I love to read.. which will always.. be a part of me.. I could take some art ellectives if I go to College to become a teacher and write childrens books which to me may be more realistic. I already have 10 thousand dollars in student loans on hold..I just want to be clearer.. so that I am not paying back and not working. Starting your own buisness can bring in some cash.. but.. the overhead.. and rent.. then to repay a loan and not be sure of what income each week and month you will generate is scarey. My goal is to obtain much more income then I am capable making now.. without a degree... I would like to make at least 3,000-4,000.00 a month to live Okay. I can supplement the teachers income with childrenbooks.. and take independent art classes some place.. But.. I am tired of dead end jobs that I am not happy at that pay so..... so... low. In the perfect world and economy.. if I could manage better.. while doing so.. I would go for the BFA.. I like the idea of the pension and summers off.. and all major holidays.. and I have a resume that is setting me up for this path.. But.. My heart is art. Thank You All For Your Help.... Watching Suze Orman .. makes me nervous about the financial freedom I do.... not by far have.. I mean nothing.. I am poor.. and at this time.. would need not kidding four jobs .. with what they always .. offer me.

Resolved Question: Wouldn't this PROPOSAL work to cut costs for our government and work for all Parties?
(Thu, 10 Sep 2009 16:44:23 GMT)
I got this in email and I thought it was worth a look. Seems like this would work for all parties. "The Proposal" When a company falls on difficult times, one of the things that seems to happen is they reduce their staff and workers. The remaining workers must find ways to continue to do a good job or risk that their job would be eliminated as well. Wall street, and the media normally congratulate the CEO for making this type of "tough decision", and his board of directors gives him a big bonus. Our government should not be immune from similar risks. Therefore: Reduce the House of Representatives from the current 435 members to 218 members. Reduce Senate members from 100 to 50 (one per State). Then, reduce their staff by 25%. Accomplish this over the next 8 years (two steps/two elections) and of course this would require some redistricting. Some Yearly Monetary Gains Include: $44,108,400 for elimination of base pay for congress. (267 members X $165,200 pay/member/ yr.) $97,175,000 for elimination of their staff. (estimate $1.3 Million in staff per each member of the House, and $3 Million in staff per each member of the Senate every year) $240,294 for the reduction in remaining staff by 25%. $7,500,000,000 reduction in pork barrel ear-marks each year. (those members whose jobs are gone. Current estimates for total government pork earmarks are at $15 Billion/yr). The remaining representatives would need to work smarter and improve efficiencies. It might even be in their best interests to work together for the good of our country! We may also expect that smaller committees might lead to a more efficient resolution of issues as well. It might even be easier to keep track of what your representative is doing. Congress has more tools available to do their jobs than it had back in 1911 when the current number of representatives was established. (telephone, computers, cell phones to name a few) Note: Congress did not hesitate to head home when it was a holiday, when the nation needed a real fix to the economic problems. Also, we had 3 senators that were not doing their jobs for the 18+ months (on the campaign trail) and still they all have accepted full pay. These facts alone support a reduction in senators & congress. (Obama, Clinton and McCain worked their day jobs while campaigning and were not those three they are talking about), Summary of opportunity: $ 44,108,400 reduction of congress members. $282,100,000 for elimination of the reduced house member staff. $150,000,000 for elimination of reduced senate member staff. $59,675,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining house members. $37,500,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining senate members. $7,500,000,000 reduction in pork added to bills by the reduction of congress members. $8,073,383,400 per year, estimated total savings. (that's 8-BILLION just to start!) Big business does these types of cuts all the time. If Congresspersons were required to serve 20, 25 or 30 years (like everyone else) in order to collect retirement benefits, tax payers could save a bundle. Now they get full retirement after serving only ONE term.

Resolved Question: if business is forced to cut during hard times, why doesnt govt do the same?

Resolved Question: This is a post I read. What do you think?
(Sat, 05 Sep 2009 23:49:52 GMT)
Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised. All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry. Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor. Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune. Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression. Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time. Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican’s would still be sitting in the dark) He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home. He turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.) Joe agrees, “We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our lives, and trying to push socialism on me through health care; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have..”.

(Fri, 28 Aug 2009 13:40:34 GMT)
For privacy reasons I will not say what County Im driving in, but I will tell you its in the state of Kentucky In a small town in the country and where the board of education is corrupted!! I have been driving a full time bus route for 3 years..I get up every morning at 4:30 and leave my house at 5:30 it takes me 40 minutes to get to my first stop at 6:10am..So that you dont get confused I live on the same road as my route, its just back in the country with winding roads, and steep hills and curves, so speed is not a option when driving this road for saftey puposes..Im just giving you a heads up on what my route is like...Anyways I dont get home until 8:15am in the mornings due to I have 2 routes I do...In the evening on a good day I get home around 5pm..The reason im so upset is I want full time meaning I drive and have been driving a full time regular route that has to be done everyday for 3 years, they have never been able to keep anyone on it they always quit..Im willing to drive it, cause I know all the kids and they are well behaved and give me no problems..unlike some of the other buses..They never make anyone full time on that route and dont know why.. I have been very patient and has not said anything, but now after speaking with one of the board members, Im highly upset...They want the superindent out, so they refuse to do anything he says..which is bull crap...Just because of there drama, doesnt mean school can stop..School must go on..leaving people like me to suffer from there stupidity..So far I mean anything can happen and lord knows I wouldnt want that, but I have been a good, dedacated bus driver who never misses, or gives anyone trouble, I am usally quite, but Im tired of being quite cause its not getting me no where...Reasons for wanting full time::: Insurance, paid holidays, sickdays, paid summers, Paid snow days (missed 32 snow days last school year) and retirement which I could have already 3 years on it!!! Plus I give them over 20+ hours a month that I dont get paid for....I only get paid for 4hours and I work over that a day....Subs are suposed to get paid the hours the work I was told, but I only get 4 hours paid..the rest is giving to them..If I worked 1 hour do you think they would pay me for 2hours..NO>>>I wouldnt be so mad about those lost hours , but Im tired of being treated like some stupid person who dont no nothing..They are no reason why they cant put me full time!!! Its not the budget thing..the state gives them money for 48 full time bus drivers and we only have 46...Are they any Laws that I should be looking into that I dont know about...I would love to raise some eyebrows...I would like to get paid for the hours I work...or Hire me!!! Im ready to be a Bitch....(but in a good way)...I dont want to loose my job, it works out perfect for my kids...PLZ HELP..Our school district Sucks....

Voting Question: Are you a conservative but just don't know it?
(Thu, 27 Aug 2009 18:17:35 GMT)
Do you believe in a smaller federal government? Do you believe in not spending more than you make? Do you have a savings account? Are you planning for your retirement without depending on Social Security? Do you believe in working for a living? Do you believe in being paid based on your own individual talents & ability? Do you believe in more money on your paycheck and less in taxes? Are you actually married to somebody of the opposite sex? If you have kids, do you try and teach them right from wrong? Do you wish people Merry Christmas instead of happy holidays? If your answer is yes to these questions, did it ever occur to you that you just might be more of a conservative than you thought?

Resolved Question: Legal Question regarding being power of attorney?
(Tue, 25 Aug 2009 17:54:06 GMT)
This is a serious question regarding being power of attorney. Recently, my neighbour passed away. My mother took care of him during his illness with Dementia since 2001 while his real family didn't want to have anything to do with him. My mother was power of attorney while this man was alive. Before he was sent into a nursing home, my mother took care of this man. She drove him to all his medical appointments, cooked all his meals, chased him around town so he wouldn't get into trouble, pulled him out of bars, lost vacation time at work to take care of him and maintained his house before he fell seriously ill. When he was diagnosed with Dementia, she went through the whole process of getting him in a nursing home and she had to purchase a cell phone because she was on call 24/7 for his needs. The time that it took to care for him took away from her full-time position and her family. I understand that the power of attorney ends at the time of death. My mom arranged the funeral, contacted family and the estate has been left to his niece on his wife's side of the family. Is there a law that my mother should be awarded 5% of the estate? She was next of kin on the death certificate. The niece is threatening to take my mother to court due to extra withdrawals that were made from his account while he was alive. The moneys were used for car maintenance, gas and holidays which she had to book for emergencies for him. The niece in question had rarely visited him while he was residing in a retirement home and at the nursing home. Does my mother have any rights in this matter? "almost nothing in your question matters. the niece gets the whole thing. your mom should bill the estate for any expenses she incurred on this man's behalf that were not reimbursed." All the money that was used was from his account. My mother had access to his account while she was power of attorney, therefor, nothing can be reimbursed. Will my mom need to pay back the money that was taken out of the account to take care of him? The niece expected to have plenty of money when she got the will but there is hardly anything left in the account. Now she is threatning to take my mother to court regarding this. Sorry for the confusion.
