his peers, but his speech is not. Some sounds he cannot pronounce clearly. I call it "talking with his tongue". some "s" are ""th" sounds. Instead of Smell its Mell, instead of "This" its "Thi", There are a few other sounds that he does the same way. The school wants to give him an IEP
(individualized education program) and Im wondering if this is considered a disability. would he be considered special education in the sense where he would be put in a special class.

When I was born my mum knew I had a problem with me and never gave up seeking help for me. I had mild Autism and a speech problem, when I was about 5 I learned how to speak through my 3 year old sister.

I was telling my friend something about a man who goes to his church. He was trying to think of he knew him. An obvious feature would have been if I told him he has a speech impediment, it's really hard to understand what he's saying, but I thought it would be rude to mention that. Did I do the right thing?

I live in Augusta, Georgia and am looking for a school in this area that I can take my son to that can help with his autism. He is currently enrolled in a pre-k class with the richmond county public school system but just a few weeks ago I was told that there are two schools in richmond county for pre-k that deal with autism. He has been tested by the Richmond County Board of Education and the only thing that they were willing to give him help with is thirty minutes of speech therapy a week. L

Paul Longmore was an extraordinary person. He was a kind man. He was a disability scholar who focused on disability history and culture. He was one of the founders of Not Dead Yet. I will miss him. The world of disability will miss him because they felt his impact even if they never knew of him.

I have 22q.11.2 deletion syndrome and I am male and 16 and I think that I might be a burden for having this genetic condition. I was born with ASD and VSD heart defects and I had to have heart surgery's for them I also have a pallet problem which makes me have a hyper nasal speech I may or may not have some learning problems but I don't know one of the main problems are learning disability's. Does hypertension fall under the DDA? It seems, to me unlikely that it would affect mobility, dexterity, co-ordination, continence, speech or ability to concentrate. (list of capacities taken from equalityhumanrights.com)
I mean from the point of view of a member of staff being off work, and whether a decision to dismiss could fall foul of the DDA. I'm referring to UK law here.

And not only are young black boys being shafted, but young white males are often thrown in Special Ed as well.
Why isn't anyone doing anything about it?
Special Ed classes are for children who have speech impairments and/or learning disabilities. I've seen cases where they have normal students in classes with kids who are Autistic, mentally retarded, and with students who are deaf and blind.
Young boys are clearly a bit more active, but to toss them into a class where they will learn next

I have no problem sending out my resumes or drafting spectacular cover letters, but when it comes time to have interviews, interviewers tend to look at me, pause, furrow their brow, and speak at a slowed rate as if they are lowering themselves to a level at which I can hear and understand (patronizing). Resolved Question: Do you find the word 'retard' offensive?

I notice that my friends use it alot in everyday speech and it really annoys me. I have a sister who has a learning disability and have seen first hand the effects that this word can have. She has come home crying, hysterically because her self esteem became so low after being called a 'stupid retard' on a frequent basis. She nearly even killed herself.
People say it is just a word but to me its not. Has sociteys use of language really diminished that much that they just throw that word around
