I asked if I can opt out of our employers short term disability and apply for state disability and I was told no because I have been here for longer than 18 months.

If someone was pregnant and if their doctor places the pregnant woman on bed rest early in the pregnancy (3 months or so) is there some type of disability that can be collected? I know I am not eligible for FMLA due to the small # of employees at my work, but a letter from HR states that I am eligible for Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL) of up to 4 months, which I can take one I become "disabled" to work. I have medcost insurance and am entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid leave from my company when the baby comes. My short term disability pays 60% of my salary, but this I'm told is only for as long as my doctor okays me for. I'm told the standard is 6 weeks. I need to take the full 12 as it's our first child and I have no family here to help me with him. Of course I'd love to have the full 12 at 60% rather than only 6. I know it's impossible to find short term disability that will cover you once you are confirmed pregnant. The insurance offered from my employee has a 10 month birth exclusion so you can't get pregnant until at least 1 month after effective date. I did talk to someone who said theirs only restricted them if the pregnancy was confirmed within 31 days of effective date. Anyone know of a company with that sort of exclusion? I don't know if I'm pregnant but I could be- so am holding off on a docto

Resolved Question: Should I be able to go back and elect short term disability on my insurance due to a life changing event?

When I originally made my benefit elections, I didn't sign up for short term disability. Stupid, I know, but my pregnancy was unplanned and I couldn't think of any other reason I might need it. Hindsight is 20/20 and I would recommend taking advantage of this benefit if you have it. Anywho, I am eligible for FMLA leave obviously, but it's completely unpaid. The only way you get paid maternity leave is if you have STD. I contacted my HR representative about possibly electing STD NOW since I tho

I am pregnant, and just wondering about insurance and the cost of the hospital stay?
First of all, if you have to go on bed rest or something and are working - and the doctor puts you on disability what happens to your insurance? Do you still have to pay your normal monthly price or while you are not working are you not covered?
How does it work when you go to the hospital? Will they bill you for charges or do you have to pay up front? (I believe my hospital co pay is 20% or something).

I'm 5 months pregnant and I might need to quit my job for safety reasons.
I work for Servpro which is a disaster restoration co., we do fire & mold jobs. I've worked there full time since August 2008.
This is my second pregnancy and I've been having alot of back pains at work and I suffer from severe migranes. I don't know if I can keep putting my body through this! Its hard work plus we use alot of chemicals & demo jobs.
I was trying to find out if I have any options if I lose my incom
