Resolved Question: Which social security program needs to be cut or reduced?
(Mon, 22 Feb 2010 15:01:10 GMT)
This system has become another welfare system. Was it suppose to be primarily a social insurance program providing social protection, or protection against socially recognized conditions, which includes poverty...don't we have welfare for this...why are we paying for this twice...through income tax and social security... old age..retirement pension disability...again why are we in the insurance business unemployment and others...why should we pay for unemployment to workers who never put anything in 1. Social Insurance...don't put in...don't get anything out...and legally in this country 2. Retirement Pensions...have to put in to get out...and legally in this country 3. Disability Insurance...has to be regulated...ADHD and behavioral and special education students should not be getting checks... 4. Survivor Benefits...they should only get if their husbands put in and legally in this country 5. Unemployment Insurance...should only get...if they have been paying in and legally in this country 6. Basic Necessities...we already have this service...with Welfare

Resolved Question: this seriously sucks but i know others are and have gone through this?
(Fri, 27 Mar 2009 21:42:06 GMT)
ok to try and make this as short as possible. im 28 with some disabilities but of course have been denied ssdi. hubby is the sole income in the house. ok baby wasnt planned, protection was used. but either way here we are ill be 12 weeks tomorrow. hubby gets paid commision and works insane hours and it doesnt allow a second job. before economy tanked things were good. well begining of feb things started getting bad. he loves what he does, towing. anything from motorcycle to 18 wheeler but alot of the calls coming in are for road service which dont pay crap.. its not like we have credit cards or anything.. daily living stuff. a jeep payment which is used not new. and the lawyers since hubby got sued and has to pay on this and insurance of 100 comes out of his check weekly.another reason he has to keep this job. insurance. everything adds up. but one thing i notice food stamps, wic and any other type of assistance does not take into account anything. what the heck!!! im seriously starting to feel like because im not one of those crazy people popping out kid after kid , or octomom, i cant get any food assistance. ive called number after number, even works with a social worker for bcbs and the numbers she gave were useless. what the heck have yall done to survive??? i know im not the only one struggling, but this sucks and i end up stressed but somehow my blood pressure is normal. well here in georgia. not sure about other states. wics income limit is $499 a week before tax and foodstamps is a little over a grand a month before tax. so even once i have mini me i doubt ill qualify but of course ill bug the crap out of them. we have no food pantries near by. the churchs/organizations also have income limits!! its insane.they require proof of everything.

Voting Question: How can I help brother get back on his feet, with no extra income of my own?
(Fri, 06 Mar 2009 15:36:33 GMT)
My brother was in an accident almost two years ago, his arm was broken. After the cast came off, he still had problems with the wrist. In fact you can actually see the bone move at the wrist joint because it is like it is not attached. He lost his job of seventeen years because he couldn't get back to work before the six month's FMLA protection expired. He lost his health insurance, exhausted his vehicle insurance, cashed out his retirement, spent it all living (and I mean just day to day expenses no frills or splurges). At this point, he has finally received an ACCESS card, while he waits SS Disability determination. He is now three months behind on his mortgage payments, and has no money in accounts left, and no income. He is surely facing foreclosure. Is borderline suicidal at this point because he sees his situation as hopeless. He was referred to a doctor that could do the surgery he needs, however this doctor will not accept the ACCESS card. He received a solutions package from the Mortgage company, but since he has no income now, I am sure that he will not be eligible for a solution, because there is no income to figure. Incidentally he started asking for a solutions package to possibly get his payments lowered way back two years ago, while he still had some income coming in from his S& A insurance. However, he was told that the income could not be considered for a solution. Funny, because the questionnaire they now sent him over two years later, when he is facing foreclosure...lists ALL kinds of income...Unemployment, insurance etc. Does anyone know any avenues to explore to try to save my brothers home, and in turn I am sure his life. I honestly believe if they try to foreclose....he will end his life in that house. He is wild with anxiety, anger, and hopelessness. He has really been giving the run around by doctor's and lawyers at this point...He is not afraid of hard work and has been in the work force since he was 18 years old. He just needs to get his body repaired so that he can get back to work. (By the way, he also messed up his knee recently, while trying to perform an every day task (loading wood into his wood stove with one hand), he ended up dropping the wood on his leg and it hit his knee just right and it is now terribly injured as well. He is only 36 years old. He could have another 35 years to work, if he can get back to work. He loves that house, it's his dream home. He has buried his companion dog on that land....so many stories....

Resolved Question: I'm scared to go to the police about my husband stealing my pain MD'S(his father is a Miami ex-detective)HELP!?
(Sun, 01 Feb 2009 05:34:12 GMT)
I asked the following question before. I got excellent answers, however, many stated I should go to college to find better people. Just to let you know I went to college, I have a graduate degree in Accounting & I still owe $55,000 worth of student loans. I would like to change careers but I'm struggling VERY HARD with my disabilities from my car accident that happened in 2004. I have had 9 operations since & I just came home from the hospital today for the 10th time since. I went because I suffer extremely painful spasms that radiate from my brain stem to the left side of my head. I have Occupital & Trigenimal Neuralgia among other things. If I don't stop the pain the inflamation affects my motor functions & if left untreated I will have permanent brain damage. The car accident was not my fault. The person who caused this 3 car pile up on I-95 (where I was the middle car that landed on the car in front of me and then my car fell backwards) was obligated to pay me via their insurance paid their policy limit which was $100,000 within months of the accident. This just barely covered my hospital bill. My Lexus was totaled. I'm in serious debt from this accident & had to take a huge cut in pay because I physically can't handle what I used to before the accident. My employer said I'm not the same person because of all the mistakes I make (which I never did before the accident). My employer is right (acknowledged by all my doctors), thus, I also have been told by all my doctors to go on disability. I'm working on getting partial disability mainly for protection against discrimination for my current medical condition. I'm allowed to work while partial disability, The limited income threshold from receiving partial disability will help supplement from what I'm making now. As far as religious groups. I have tried but it's hard to be around people when you don't want to feel like a burden because of my ongoing medical problems. Also, the only sibling I had died in the auto accident & my parents can't handle anymore stress so sharing this problem with them would be too overwhelming for them. I know this because I have hinted enough to see what their reaction would be. Finally, I'm 37 with a 15 yr old daughter who's staying with my parents for the first time in her life while I stay close to Nova University to be a guinea pig to receive any treatment available since their a "teaching hospital" in medicine who works closely with John Hopkins. Anyways, with that said, here is my question that I posted several weeks ago. Sorry for the lengthiness. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm scared to go to the police about my husband stealing my pain meds(his father is a Miami ex-detective)HELP!? I asked this question before but apparently did not provide enough information. I do not want to snitch on my husband. I have tried to hide the medication but he gets extremely angry (but does not hit me). However, I have been a victim of domestic violence before (where my ex-husband tried to kill my family & stabbed me with a knife) so I don't know if I'm extra fearful about confronting him and/or putting my foot down; I was in counseling (as well as my family) for that for 5 years before I met my new husband who is well aware of my past. I have tried to talk to his family who not only is in denial or "tired of dealing with the problem" as they put it as long as he acts "productive" to them that's all they care about. Plus, he's a "momma's boy" so it's like he can do no wrong. The only time that I know (I suspect there were more now) that he was "busted" by them for abusing pain medication he said the pain medication was mine. However, this pain medication was something he bought online & took a much hire dose in a short period of time & when he ran out of those he vomited so much (as well as experiencing other symptoms) for 4 days before being forced to go to the hospital via ambulance (in front of his parents) & when he got there he was so dehydrated (he couldn't hold even Gatorade) that when his toxicology screen came back for opiates he was "clean." He was honest to the drs at the hospital about his opium use & that's why they suggested he see a GI doctor because his intestinal tract was in such bad shape due to ulcers from the pain med. However, since he also had food poisoning (as well as I but did not suffer because as much because I had a better GI tract) and was given antibiotics his originally suspicious parents believed that it was just food poisoning & that this non-prescribed stash was mine, which has now ruined my relationship with my in-laws even though I told them to blood test me anytime & even offer me a lie detector test. I only take my pain medication when I have spasm from MS, and now occipital & trigenimal neuralgia that I was diagnosed with after a severe 2004 auto accident for which I have had already 9 operations. I never have dealt with someone with substance abuse but due to

Resolved Question: for those of you who think Obama has accomplish nothing?
(Fri, 15 Feb 2008 05:58:50 GMT)
Obama passed legislation with Republican Senator Jim Talent to give gas stations a tax credit for installing E85 ethanol refueling pumps. The tax credit covers 30 percent of the costs of switching one or more traditional petroleum pumps to E85, which is an 85 percent ethanol/15 percent gasoline blend. -After a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases. -His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. -Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years. -Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations. -As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan. -He traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world. -Obama has been a leading advocate for protecting the right to vote, helping to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act and leading the opposition against discriminatory barriers to voting. - In the U.S. Senate, Obama introduced the STOP FRAUD Act to increase penalties for mortgage fraud and provide more protections for low-income homebuyers, well before the current subprime crisis began. -Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbied the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices. -Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military. -Obama worked to pass a number of laws in Illinois and Washington to improve the health of women. His accomplishments include creating a task force on cervical cancer, providing greater access to breast and cervical cancer screenings, and helping improve prenatal and premature birth services. -Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts. -Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the "gold standard" for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists' bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law. I really could list many, many more but I fear it would be too much to take in at one time. I hope this helps some of you know him a little better. Everyone seems to be jumping on his "Change" bandwagon. However, he does have the record to back it up. haha..i know jonathan..just spreading the message..u know

Resolved Question: Why did conservatives oppose the following programs ?
(Sun, 06 May 2007 22:25:04 GMT)
In spite of all of the right wing propaganda, the truth of America is that liberal programs have made this country great...and conservatives have opposed almost every worthy advancement liberals advocated for. Appreciate any thoughts...especially conservative thoughts on why conservatives opposed the following programs..... Social Security Right to Unionize 40 Hour Work Week Overtime pay Environmental Protection Agency OSHA almost all food safety laws Peace Corps Woman's Right to Vote Public Education Product labeling - truth in advertising Center for Disease Control Bank Deposit Insurance Earned Income Tax Credit Family and Medical Leave Act Public Broadcasting Consumer Product Safety Commission Americans With Disabilities Act Civil Rights Act GI Bill There are many more examples, but these examples should be enough of a framework Why did/do conservatives oppose these programs/laws ?
