Resolved Question: How do I apply for Social Security Disability in California?
(Thu, 05 Aug 2010 00:48:36 GMT)
just turned 22 years old, and I am poor. I'm lucky enough to still have a roof over my head, but I am lacking proper nutrition, finances to afford health care. I have not been employed long enough to gain unemployment benefits. I am diagnosed with anxiety disorder (panic attacks at random) and chronic upper and lower back pain. If it wasn't for my illness' holding me back I would be working. I have been living with this disability over 4 years, was blessed savings and family support. But now

Resolved Question: Is there such thing as a type of social worker who can help a person navigate through solving a crisis?

Our neighbor, a single parent with 2 kids, was self employed but is now permanently disabled so can no longer work at all. She just lost her house to foreclosure (predatory lender scam), her car to repossession, her family medical insurance coverage and her utilities are going to be cut off soon. They have to be moved out in the next few weeks and can't afford to move anywhere. She's ineligible for unemployment benefits (California) because she was self-employed, and can't afford to go to t

When money moves from my employer to me, I pay: Income Tax, State Income Tax, FICA, and California Disability Insurance income tax.
When my money moves from my wallet to the cashier, I pay: Sales Tax
When my money gets invested I pay a fee for investing then when it gives me a return, I pay: Capital Gains tax

Resolved Question: California Worker's Comp/UEF case settled via C & R. Do I still have a civil remedy available to me?
(Thu, 04 Mar 2010 06:07:55 GMT)
The California Worker's Comp case I was involved in was actually both a Worker's Comp AND an Uninsured Employer's Fund case (boss didn't have insurance when I was injured). So, after just shy of three years of BS with the Worker's Comp and Uninsured Employer's Trust departments of the California government, I "capitulated," and signed a Compromise and Release to settle my case. Because it was an Uninsured Employer's Trust case, my case never became an "accepted case" until right before it wa

Today, the federal government is simply trying to do too much.

In the past year, over three million Americans have lost their jobs, yet the Democratic Congress continues deficit spending, adding to the bureaucracy, and increasing the national debt on our children and grandchildren. [McDonnell Prepared Remarks, 1/27/10

Okay, so I am in between insurances, due to a layoff. I was laid off due to the number of days I had to take because my disability has gotten worse. I can't use cobra (long story) and I need some type of coverage badly. I used to have Medi-Cal before I got my job in 2007, but was taken off because I made too much. Due to the worsening of my disability, I doubt that I will even be able to ever return to work. So, right now I am in need of medi-cal majorly, because I am on a lot of meds, one

Tax lady sounds right, but "most" is a fuzzy term. Admittedly most operations are in CA but a significant portion is performed in FL, and my wife's job is entirely in FL. Never a need to go to CA.

I wonder if California's EDD would check my tax return to confirm that during the time of disability, I didn't receive any other income? The reason I am asking is that because I would like to claim as "real estate professional" on the tax return as I had spent quite a bit of time on it, however, I am not sure if EDD would have problem with it. They would say since you are disabled, you can't be performing any tasks, while the reality is that my disability disallow me to perform my usual occupa
