Open Question: Crazy Church Lady or Con Artist?
(Fri, 12 Mar 2010 02:57:19 GMT)
Several months ago my parents were approached by an acquaintance/fellow parishioner at their church which they have been going to for 50 years (they met and were married at this church as well). The lady who approached them was fairly new to the Church and new to the faith, a member of around two years, and in her mid to late 20's. She had asked my parents if they would please be the benefactor of her life insurance policy which included a lump sum of cash and entailed responsibility over her ashes. They agreed and a few weeks later she presented them with papers to sign in which they both included personal information including their social security numbers, home address, DOB and so on. 8-10 months has elapsed and the young lady has yet to notarize and submit the document she had them sign. When I heard this story I went fishing for as much information as I could and my mother revealed that she was against doing this yet my father insisted they go forward and agree. The lady is from out of town, several states away, moved here for a part time job at an assisted living facility, and my father is under the impression that she used to be homeless and has parents with many shortcomings. She has no car or no phone and she lives in the basement of a house near her work. She gives my parents random presents such as gift certificates, religious items and gourmet foods. As an adult child I need to figure out if she is she crazy or if she is a con? Has anyone heard of a type of scam or fraud or identity theft where someone approaches you and asks you to be the benefactor of their life insurance policy?

Resolved Question: Any Shooting Range Owners From Florida?
(Mon, 08 Mar 2010 01:24:31 GMT)
In the part of Florida that I live, there is only one range with four stalls. It is expensive as well as run down. People go there only because they have no other place to go within a 50 mile radius. I decided I want to open a range myself and have already obtained so much data that my head is spinning, yet I still have some questions I am having trouble getting answered. I have the Florida State Statutes, County Codes and Zoning, The NRA Range Sourcebook (in the mail), USAF ETL 08-11: Small Arms Range Design and Construction, the EPA CFRs for lead, and have a couple of properties I am looking at in my area that meet code and would be large enough to suffice the range. The range will be an outdoor range that has 50m (X5), 100 m (X5), 300 m(X3), and 1000 m (X2) lanes that will have use a dirt backstop accompanied by a cement block wall. The range will allow for ammunition from .22 cal to .50 cal. Other than delivery of dirt my brother, cousin, dad, and friend will assist me in the construction of the stalls, measuring the Surface Danger Zone/Vertical Danger Zone, backstops, and targets. My cousin and myself are going to Orlando to become Range Safety Officers for insurance purposes. As business takes off I will be adding a skeet shoot and a tactical/obstacle course with pop-up targets and CQB scenarios, but those are not in the making yet (not until I have an established business). The building where business will be conducted will need to have retail space for accessories, gear, ammo, and guns for sale/rent (I have an application for an FFL but until I have a location of business I cannot send it in). I will also need a 125ft X 125ft room for conducting NRA, CCW, and security courses as well as offer free hunting courses (All but the hunting courses will be taught by either myself or my cousin). A bathroom and breakroom are requirements for a security training facility in my state. I know what is needed by the county, state, EPA, and BATFE in regards to licensing and regulations for the range and firearms, what I am not sure of is the business aspect. I was hoping someone who owns a range in Florida could help answer the few questions that I have left. Q1: I know the average mark-up for firearms and accessories in the area, but how can I find the cost of the firearms and accessories (wholesale/dealers price) or of any price breaks for bulk orders? The distributors will not talk to me until I have my FFL and I cannot get my FFL without a place for business and I cannot get a place of business without a business loan from a bank. Due to the economy and my age, 24, I am going to have to go to the bank with a DETAILED business plan and explain how they will get there money back. Q2: How do you pay a business loan back? Do you pay monthly payments (i.e. mortgage/car payment) or do you pay in back in a lump some with in so many years? If so what is the time frame it is to be paid back in? Q3: Do you know of any good insurance companies to cover my business (in Florida) and if so how much does it cost? Again they will not talk to me until I have a business. Q4: How much do lead removal services cost? The EPA mandates that a company has to come and remove lead from my dirt back stops and I'm sure it is not free. If I have the equipment am I allowed to do it myself? Q5: If you own an outdoor range in Fl, do you mind telling me an estimated cost of construction supplies for your outdoor range? Q6: I am looking a buying a large piece of land and I'm probably not going to find one with a building on it that suits my needs. Any ideas/suggestions on new construction vs. other options I am unaware of such as portable buildings (if they have them) Q7: What are the state and federal taxes (estimate of course) for running such a business in FL? Please, refrain from JUST telling me that this is an expensive business and that it will fail. I now that it will be expensive and that is why I need a DETAILED business plan for the bank. I am hoping for help with the few financial questions left to determine the over all cost and revenue I will need to acquire. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I appreciate and look forward to any responses.

(Mon, 01 Mar 2010 17:55:33 GMT)

(Fri, 26 Feb 2010 23:27:44 GMT)
He is in a assisted living facility 60 miles away, but we are renting his house per his request and now he asked us if we wanted to buy it. My sister in law is his durable power of attorney. He is in his right mind. Can we go directly to my father in law to sign any contracts or do we have to go through my sister in law?

Resolved Question: Joe Jedlowski, VP Types of personal care provided by senior living facilities!?
(Thu, 25 Feb 2010 05:31:52 GMT)
Joe Jedlowski, explains that personal care (also known as custodial care) encompasses what are known as "ADL”--activities of daily living. These commonly include: Cooking and cleaning eating bathing dressing using the toilet getting around the house (mobility) Additional personal care support may provide assistance with: transportation around the community medication reminders finding companionship participating in social and recreational activities While an independent living senior community does not provide personal care in the home, the various types of assisted living facilities do.

Voting Question: Joe Jedlowski, How do I determine what type of senior housing arrangement is best?
(Thu, 25 Feb 2010 05:29:08 GMT)
Joe Jedlowski, After familiarizing yourself with the types of residential care, it’s time to conduct a thorough inventory of the senior’s wants, needs and goals. Some key issues to consider: Joe Jedlowski,Temporary versus long term care: An older person may go to a nursing home for rehab following a surgery or stroke, then return home. In other circumstances, a senior’s needs are better served by planning a move into a situation that is likely to remain the same for the many years to come. Independence: Can the senior live alone, and more importantly, does he/she want to? Or would living in a more service-oriented environment be more nurturing? Privacy: Independence and assistance generally form a continuum: privacy decreases as the need for assistance increases. If the senior's desire for privacy is paramount, independent living, assisted living, or a Continuing Care Retirement Community would all be preferable to a board & care home or a nursing home. Needs for personal care: How much and what kinds of personal or “custodial care” are needed or desired? There are online needs assessment questionnaires to help determine this and then match the care needs with the right type of housing. Needs for medical care: If the senior has a chronic illness that necessitates special medical care, or ongoing services of medical professionals, independent living and even assisted living may not be suitable. Costs: Learn about the financial aspects of senior housing to determine what options are affordable for you. Walk through and evaluate several care facilities or senior communities that seem suitable. Reviewing facility comparison checklists can help you determine which type of environment fits the senior resident’s requirements and preferences. Seek guidance from professionals who are experts in senior housing issues such as medical social workers, case managers or geriatric care managers. They can help with all phases of this process: identifying goals and values, assessing needs, determining what is affordable, and suggesting appropriate facilities.

Voting Question: What should I do? Medical Assistant or Dental Assistant? HELP ME PLEASE!!!?
(Thu, 25 Feb 2010 01:16:59 GMT)
I am going to be starting school at Missouri College, hopefully sometime in April. My plan is to get my feet wet in something so I can begin making some kind of money now and then go back to community college to either become an RN or respiratory therapist. I am interested in both medical assisting and dental assisting. I originally wanted to do the medical assisting program (I think it will aid me more in becoming an RN or an RT than dental would). I was reading in the Missouri College booklet and found out that their medical assistant program is not currently accredited, therefore you can not take the test to become a certified medical assistant but you can take the test to become a registered medical assistant. So, what's the difference between a certified medical assistant and a registered medical assistant? Does one make more money than the other? Plus, I am seeing many health care facilities asking/preferring certified medical assistants and wanting 2 years experience just to get hired. Dental assisting seems to be much more better to find a job in. Plus, Missouri College is accredited in their dental assisting program. But dental assisting won't really aid me much in becoming an RN or an RT. I am so confused...what do you think I would make more money in, dental or medical assistant? Which do you think I have better luck in finding a job in? Or do you think I am better off just forgetting all about Missouri College and just going to community college right off the bat? But then I lose the $35 I paid for my application fee. What to do? What to do? Someone help me please! P.S. I live in St.Louis, Missouri (if that helps you find the answers) P.S. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Resolved Question: What should I wear to my interview tomorrow?
(Fri, 19 Feb 2010 06:20:58 GMT)
I have an interview at a small assisted living facility/nursing home tomorrow. What would you recommend that I wear? I have no idea. I was raised in a small town where everyone knew everyone, so I was able to get a job just wearing jeans & a t-shirt. (I know that won't get me the job in this case.) Now that I have moved to a big town, I feel clueless.

Resolved Question: What's the difference between assisted living and nursing home care?
(Fri, 12 Feb 2010 19:36:54 GMT)
My father in law lives with my husband and I. It's time to start looking at and consider the next step, next phase as we need help and so does he. I just spoke with an assisted living facility who said they keep residents there until their last day. They also said that they can take residents who suffer with dementia and alzheimer's (our case) or even help them bath and with meds. So if an assisted living facility does the same things a nursing home does, what makes one different from the other? The only thing I know at this point is the financial end of it. Most assisted living facilities (if not all but I haven't called all so I don't know about all) do not take Medicaid, most nursings homes (if not all but I haven't called all so I don't know about all) do. Is that the only difference between the two? My father in law would need financial assistance where ever he goes, what the assisted living facility told me about (for financial aid) wouldn't cover the full cost and my father in law in pennyless (does get SS but not much) and he doesn't have the money for the difference therefore this particular assisted living facility would not work for him.

Resolved Question: Alzheimers Assisted living facilities in IL?
(Mon, 08 Feb 2010 16:48:45 GMT)
I've got a family member currently living in an Alzheimer/Dementia Assisted living and memory care facility in Illinois. I was wondering where i could find the state laws or regulations for assisted living facilitys. Such as the ratio of CNA's to Residents. It seems like there have been more people falling and getting injured due to lack of staffing at this facility. I also find that during meals, the CNA's are forced to just walk around and stand while feeding residents because half of the residents require total dependence being fed. There are approximately 34 residents at this facility, and like i said, many who are totally dependent...yet only about 3 CNA's and 1 LPN working at a time. It seems to me that there should be some sort of set guideline as to how many residents one CNA can take care of at a time. Where can i find the laws/guidelines for the state of illinois?

Resolved Question: Can somebody help me and explain this in an easier to understand way like where do i get the photos?
(Wed, 03 Feb 2010 21:56:04 GMT)
or do i just use the paint program? to make up blueprints? Brindle and Crawford Real Estate Developers are planning a new community. The company has invited you to prepare a presentation on a bid proposal for a CPTED plan. Brindle and Crawford has provided these details about the new community they are planning to build: The community will be made up of 100 one-acre lot residential homes of 3,000–4,000 square feet. A golf course, complete with a swimming pool, clubhouse, tennis courts, a natural lagoon, and a man-made lake, is also a part of the plans. The community will also include an upscale 200-unit assisted-living facility for retirees. The land was purchased with a contingency agreement that the golf course would have public access, and that the natural conservation of the land would be respected. Prepare a presentation about your CPTED plan bid proposal for this new community. Brindle and Crawford would like bid proposals to include suggested layouts for optimal safety and security measures. Outline the key elements and points clearly, and discuss how regulations and risks will be managed. Your presentation should incorporate theories, concepts, and readings that have been covered so far. Your CPTED plans should be theoretically and scientifically grounded. It is important for an administrator to be able to communicate and verbally explain his or her vision and plan. Record your presentation as if you were presenting your bid to Brindle and Crawford. Follow these directions to complete the technical aspects of this assignment: Building Your Presentation Use PowerPoint to build your presentation. Write your script for each slide in the Notes section of the slide. Submit and post your PowerPoint document in the discussion area, and submit it to your instructor. Your instructor will review and grade your presentation. Your presentation will also be viewed by your fellow learners. You will use the plan to complete the Critique a CPTED Plan discussion activity in this unit.

Resolved Question: Can you please provide feedback on my poem?
(Thu, 28 Jan 2010 03:18:47 GMT)
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help. Breakfast for Dinner I park in the empty lot of the assisted living facility- A bouquet of Myosotis sits in the passenger seat, While Oldies float through the air on the backs of waves- The same waves that once splashed against youthful ears, While you sang and shuffled around in your apron- Defying the grating pleas of rusty joints and raspy bones. The smell of warm cherry cobbler used to drift through your house- The prelude to a full belly and a blissful grin. I remember you counting rolls of coins to buy the groceries To cook us breakfast for dinner- Golden pancakes of different shapes and sizes, Some so large they spilled over the edge of the plate- The grandest of feasts for your grandest of kin. Laughter echoed off of walls lined with family photos- Fragmented memories encapsulating childhood- Our moments together, lined with seashells. I cling to these memories like floating debris, So please, this time, remember me.

I work in Hospice. I go into private homes, nursing homes, care homes, assisted living facilities, etc. This morning one of my patients was very upset. She's got Dementia, so she was all over the place with reasons for being upset. Her husband said she didn't sleep well, and thinks it has to do with a show they watched last night about Pit Bulls being killed, though she never mentioned that as one of the reasons, and she's so bad off she can't put that into words, or understand that I understand, and that upsets me as well about Pitties being killed. I did everything I could think of to get her mind off of it. I talked to her about different things, tried enticing her with breakfast, took her for a walk around the facility in her wheelchair(they live in an assisted living facility), had her talk to different people to make conversation, offered to curl her hair, but nothing worked. I talked to the nurse, who said all they can do is just wait it out. Does anyone else have any ideas should this happen again?

Resolved Question: Will you please provide feedback for my poem?
(Wed, 27 Jan 2010 14:11:20 GMT)
I wrote this poem last night for a creative writing class. The goal of the assignment was to create an emotional poem without telling the emotions. Are the last coupled lines too abrupt? Does the poem flow well? Is the goal of the assignment achieved? Is it too short? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help. Breakfast for Dinner I park in the empty lot of the assisted living facility- A bouquet of Myosotis sits in the passenger seat, While Oldies drift through the air on the backs of waves- The same waves that once splashed against youthful ears, While you sang and shuffled around in your apron- Defying the grating pleas of rusty joints and raspy bones. The smell of warm cherry cobbler used to float through the house- The precursor to a full belly and a blissful grin.

Resolved Question: I quit my job was I right in doing so?
(Wed, 20 Jan 2010 23:20:34 GMT)
I use to work nights, for a couple who owns a assisted living facility. Caregivers work there and they care for the elderly. Well I talked to the wife about switching my off days, so I can take a class. She told me it was OK. I went ahead and payed for the class. Well, when I mentioned it to her husband he became angry and said he could not work with my schedule! That his wife doesn't make decisions and HE DOES. And he said he would fire me if that's what I want. He was basically a jerk to me and he had me in tears after he left. I thought about it and I told myself I cannot handle this. I was told one thing and then another about my schedule. Then he didn't care that I already paid the money. It was unfair. If I drop the class then I lose out on my money I paid. I went ahead and called the wife and told her I wanted to quit. I wanted her to call her husband, to take my place since she was already working at the other facility they own. She became rude and calling me names. Then she said I can't wake up my husband he is sleeping! If you leave I will call the police on you!! Long story short I ended up calling the cops. He didn't want to come in and work for me. When he got there, he acted like the conversation between us never took place. Then as we were leaving he started screaming at his wife. So was I right to quit?

Resolved Question: Why do people say teachers don't get paid enough?
(Tue, 19 Jan 2010 22:24:54 GMT)
How much should a teacher Make? Who pays teachers salaries in low income earning areas. Low income people right. People that live in goverment assisted housing where they don't even pay for there kids to even be there. Now you go somewhere nice, a well of community you will see a nice school, nice facilities, and educated good teachers with good salaries. Yea I know crazy thought huh. Its like every job and business, there are good schools and good companies to work for and theres bad ones. If teachers aren't making enough then pay more taxes, but don't forget your paying for them to have summer break, there health care paid in full in some instances, and a pention, protected by teachers unions who are one of the most powerful unions there are. Teachers who have tenure go sit in a building drawing a tax based salary without even educating. This is no disrespect to teachers, you earned your position through hard work and education, and you are taken care of well. I pay a furtune in taxes for local schools to indoctrinate the young. Why don't you step up and earn your money by teaching the right things instead of what your school board and goverment expects. Us citizens will back you up, its our children.. Not most teachers with tenure, my mistake, just some who don't have a teaching job to go to. There tenure protects there salary. Well as far as tenure goes, I have good buddy who's wife works for the local school district and told me she has it. Most people have to pay money to further themselves in there career. Teachers, just have an automatic pention if they conform. Much respect goes out to your teacher friend who stands for something. I know someone who this happened to, once the people of the community heard about this a public outcry, and he got his job back. Teachers are the most influntial people in this nation they make or brake some kids mentalities on life and this countries future. Well I am educated, and the bottom line is schools are different from state to state, some healthcare is paid in full, some is paid in full for singles, some is a type co-pay like your self. And as far as unions go of course you pay union do's. As far as tenure goes, I know a few people who earn it after 5 years, and it was made to protect good teachers who want to express themselves without reprocussions. Now again I respect teachers, and they really have no choice in the matter of whether or not they join a union if they want to be a teacher they join the union. But I know for a fact in the city I live in the teachers make more not only based on education, but also based on funding. The county taxs is what funds the schools where I live I know different people who work in the suburbs and in the city/hood and they live in the same state but are compensated differently. And I know that taxpayer wouldn't pay your union do's its the empoyees collective bargaining agreement, its just the fact that the teachers unions are to powerful, if you are educated then you would know that yourself. I am suprised you only pay 400 hundred a year thats cheap, either you work for small school district or a smaller union because those do's should be more than that. Where I work I easily spend more money than that a year, for gear, equipment, food for traveling, education. Everyone does if they are a professional right..... All I am saying is teachers get paid enough, then tack on the pention, who in some states is added directly from tax money as a part of there pay without employee matching, and full, or partially paid healthcare, and union protection, a large powerful union in the pockets of the US goverment. They are well compensated for, for only working the hours they do, and having summer paid, yes if you choose to have your paycheck paid that way or you don't have to its up to the employee. You make a 50 thousand dollar salary and work 9 months out of the year divide it by 12 or nine it doesn't matter your still making good money and with a full pention, where you can work after retiring and double dip.. I say teachers get paid good, thats it. Not saying they don't deserve it, NOT saying that..

Resolved Question: How can obtain a printed directory of assisted living/nursing homes for my mother?
(Mon, 18 Jan 2010 22:19:44 GMT)
I've been searching the internet for information on obtaining a published, printed directory of residential facilities for senior citizens, either in my area or my mother's area. I can find web sites with these listings, but no one seems to offer a printed version. It seems like I've seen such directories before, but can't remember where. She's aging rapidly and we gotta do something soon!

Resolved Question: Quit my last job and now they are asking me to come back? Should I ?! Explained Below.?
(Sat, 16 Jan 2010 03:33:05 GMT)
I am an RN at a small privately owned assisted living facility. With the economy the way it is, RN jobs are impossible to find in a 200 mile radius of me. SOOO, I took this job at an assisted living facility. At first, things were fine...good hours, good employees, time off. Then it got bad...they were asking me to work 10-12 a day 6, 7, 10 days straight with no overtime pay. They took the hours off of the following weeks (hour off here or there to make up), calling me at 2 am b/c "Mr. Jones" didn't have his 1 am bowel movement (come on!). So, I got fed up, tried to talk to the administrator and she blew me off, so I quit. 6 wks later, no new job, and they call me back...begging me to come back b/c they don't have a nurse on staff. Promises were made that the hours would be what I WANTED, when I wanted, a raise, etc. But my problem is... of them falling back into old routines of switching up the schedule again, long hours with no overtime, midnight calls, etc. Should I go back or cut my losses and wait to find another job??!!

Resolved Question: What Should We Do About His Mother?
(Thu, 14 Jan 2010 15:21:15 GMT)
My fiancé are planning to marry soon and move in to this house together; however, he currently cares for his elderly mother (77) who relies on him for everything. She doesn't like me at and she says that she won't move out of the house or allow me to stay there. My fiancé can't just pack up and leave because his mother depends on him for everything from house care to finances. He found a nice assisted living facility for her to go to, but she says she refuses. With this problem going on, my fiancé and I are having issues getting married and having our own life. The problem is that she refuses to accept that he can't take care of her anymore, and he doesn't want to become a legal guardian because he doesn't want to create a bad relationship with his mother.

Resolved Question: Have you ever had to place your elderly parent or loved one in assisted living or a nursing home - unwillingly?
(Sat, 02 Jan 2010 06:45:55 GMT)
My mother is 93 y/o, and her judgement is so poor that she has become a danger to herself and others (like lighting her cigarettes by turning on the gas stove and leaning down directly over the flame). She is not senile (she knows who we are, who she is, etc.) but her short-term memory is completely gone. She forgets things like lit cigarettes, to turn off the stove, etc... also what year it is, where she is (her house, our house, what state she's in, etc.). We have tried desperately to encourage her to move into an assisted living facility, and have taken her to see some very nice places (one or two where even my wife and I wouldn't mind living). But she vehemently refuses to move out of her home, even for a few days so my sister (her main caretaker) can go into the hospital for some much-needed surgery. She becomes downright nasty whenever we mention it. And we are in different states so my wife and I can't take her in (nor are we equipped vocationally, mentally or psychologically to do so). Her social worker has told us that as long as my mother hasn't been declared legally incompetent, we all have to honor her wishes about health care, including admission to a place where she could get the care that she needs. She (the social worker) has talked to us about getting legal guardianship and forcing her to move into such a place. That sounds like the only option, but I can't imagine leaving her there when I know she'd be so frightened and disoriented. Of course this is breaking our hearts, but I don't see any other option. So if you have experienced anything like this, either as a caretaker, a child of an elderly or demented person, or a professional in the field... I would really appreciate hearing your experiences and advice, and any other thoughts you might have. Thanks, and God bless you.

Resolved Question: Single and Childless Women Only: How do you cope with being single and childless? How do you cope with family?
(Fri, 01 Jan 2010 02:36:23 GMT)
Well I'm going to be 28 years old soon and I'm still single and I still don't have any children.I want children, but I'm waiting for marriage. Now if by chance I don't get married by the time I'm 32, I will adopt and go to the sperm bank and get artificially inseminated. How do you cope with being single and childless? How do you cope with relatives who think you're a failure because you're not married and you have no children? How do you cope when your family ask questions like "So have you met that special someone yet?" or "So are you seeing anyone yet?" How do you cope with relatives who have no respect for you just because you aren't married and you have no children? Do some of your relatives still think of you as being a little girl because you're still single with no kids? Do you fear being the lonely old lady in the nursing home or assisted living facility who never married or had kids? Do you fear becoming an old lady with a bunch of cats or dogs?

Resolved Question: What can I do about abuse at an assisted living facility?
(Wed, 30 Dec 2009 19:41:18 GMT)
I went to visit a friend living in an ALF where these things were offered: Nursing and therapy screenings Educational and preventative support Health and safety presentations Vital sign and weight clinics Flu clinics Fall prevention clinic Assistive device 'check-up' clinics Outpatient referral services Support for group exercise classes Physician referal services Assistance with daily activities, such as: Bathing, dressing, medication reminders Three delicious meals per day Social activities Transportation Housekeeping She has been denied all the above mentioned services except meals, maid service, and laundry. Most of her meals have been eaten in her room. She turned in meal order each morning and I picked up and brought back to room. Empty tray was left in room or bathroom . When housekeepping came to clean trays were in shower. Housekeeping did not remove them or clean shower. Toilet was not cleaned, just disinfectant was poured in toilet. Trash was not taken out. No extra toilet paper was left. Four rolls are the customary number left. One light bulb was burnt out. It was not replaced. Also, furniture in room was not dusted. Laundry was done but not returned until 10:00 pm. At this time Diane was asleep. Maid opened door and entered, turning on light so as to see how to put things away, waking Diane. Process of delivering and putting away laundry took about ½ hour. I have lived and taken care of patients in other facilities like the Fountains many times in the past. In these places laundry was always picked up and returned in the daytime so as not to disturb the patients. Also, no new towels were left on the normal schedule of early Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They had to be requested or her aide had to go get them before giving bath. Aide is a hired outside aide. This is another area where the Fountains have not provided advertised and paid for service. When the aide went into the bath (the one that is used by any resident who cannot be bathed in the small bathroom in the rooms) it was covered with dog hair. The ALF has a resident dog roaming around the building unattended. It even goes into the kitchen. It was found out that the dog is bathed and groomed in the bath where the residents are also bathed. What can be done about this situation?

Resolved Question: Do you think my mother has a chance at getting into an assisted living facility?
(Sat, 26 Dec 2009 02:53:06 GMT)
My mother is 65 and has had severe Agoraphobia and panic disorder since she was young. She has had hired companions to be with her 24/7 because she has such severe attacks when she's alone. She has now run out of money. There is an assisted living home in NJ where she lives that will take her in if she has Medicaid. She has applied for it and is currently meeting with people from Medicaid to determine her eligibility. She has completed all necessary forms from doctors. Do you think she really has a shot at being approved for Medicaid? Please no nasty answers, this is a difficult time for me since she's my only family and i stopped asking questions on this site b/c i usually end up with rude answers. Thanks. Lynn, Medicaid is what's required for this facility, not Medicare. Thanks.

Voting Question: Do I have enought experience to apply to the Master's in Social Work program?
(Wed, 23 Dec 2009 16:54:03 GMT)
I have one year of experience working with adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems as a youth counselor in a group home placement. My job duties included monitoring behavior of clients, intervening during crisis situations, teach clients independent living skills, positive self-image and self-esteem. I would help them transition in a more independent way of living by them learning and using these coping skills. I have also worked two years as a Case Manager in an outpatient setting with children and families that have mental health problems. My role as a case manager was to conduct intake screening and interview families for an assessment of needs. I would also assist families with referrals based on their situations. for example, I would give families refferrals to housing, education, medical, and mental health referrals. I would keep their records, log family sessions, and write progress notes. I was also responsible for writing reports to the courts on client psychiatric conditions. I am currently working at a residential treatment facility as a Unit Coordinator. I still have client contact with my current job but my main responsibilities include assuring that the clients medical needs are met, coordinating all appointments for clients, faxing and coordinating psychotropic medications authorization forms for clients. I was not sure if this experience would be considered related to social work. I work with doctors and attend treatment team to discuss clients progress in program. Ialso worked as a Case Manager for domestic violence families/victims for 6 months. I was responsible for answering the hotline. Interviewing clients to assess their situations. Meet with clients on a weekly basis to follow-up with thier situations and write goals for each client to meet while in the program. Document services provided such as intake screening, referrals, and teaching clients parenting skills, money management, and self-esteem. I would maintain a caseload of 10-12 families in shelter. Coordinate services for clients. do you think I have enough experience for the social work program.

Voting Question: How do I open my own assisted living facility out of my house?
(Tue, 15 Dec 2009 18:24:06 GMT)
First of all thank you for taking some time out to help a total stranger. It is truly appreciated. I own my own house in fort worth texas and plan on opening a hospice facility. I know this is going to be quite expensive but this is my dream and I want to pursue it. I am not sure on the laws and regulations on what I have to do. I have been to various government web sites and there not much help. Is there anyone out there that has already opened a facility from their home and could help answer some questions? I would like to know what laws and regulations, Does a RN have to be there at all times, Where do I go to find out if I can open a facility where I live, and what difficulties am I going to come across. I do plan on opening in the next 6 years.

Resolved Question: Should my 84 year old parents with Alzheimers get the H1N1 vaccine?
(Tue, 15 Dec 2009 17:40:44 GMT)
They both have Alzheimers and live in an Alzheimers Assisted Living facility. They gave all the residents a regular flu shot, (if they wanted it), however, the nurses say there has been no mention from the doctor of offering the H1N1 vaccine. We are in Ohio. Anyone have a similar situation?
